Wingnut WORKS of charity (hurricane) won't save their souls, as if they HAVE souls
The wingnut tenet of “giving, philanthropy” is as wrong as everything else in their full creed. They preach individual, private giving, volunteering - as opposed to organized (government programs) distribution of services to needs. When there is a turnover of government from Dem to Repuke, the Repukes have invariably touted volunteerism to compensate for their cuts in services. (Separate topic: How wingnuts are anti-Choice on the basis of “life” but then deny all aid to the born.)
Yaas, they say that Saint RAYGUN would give dollars out of his pocket to panhandlers, personally showing HEART to individuals, one on one. Ah, but they skip the part about how his CUTS to social services hurt MILLIONS of people.
And wingnuts are always fundraising for charitable causes, like LIMBOsevic’s yearly phone-athons for a charity that raises millions and the KOCH brothers who are sponsors of our PBS outlet among who knows how many other millions for other charities, and I will be the first Lib to admit whatever I do will never match them, plus I don’t begrudge them whatever their deductions are. However, I WILL quibble and snipe at their translated message, which is that wingnut giving and volunteerism prove that government programs are not needed.
So now, the wingnuts are having their usual orgiastic fits of self-congratulation about how GENEROUS they are over the hurricane. Yaas, they believe they are GOOD and GENEROUS. The translation in wingnut political jargon is: This proves that Lib bleeding heart-ism is wrong because our individual giving is great, feels great, and is great enough to meet (whatever the immediate situation is).
This is not a new discussion, has been addressed since ancient days, a sampling below. (Separate topic, same as how the early Church ruled out quadrennial elections for pope because it would lead to perpetual campaigning.) Their WORKS will not save their souls, as if they HAVE souls.
