about Tortola. Of all the places in the world I want to end my life in it is Tortola. That is not going to happen but I love that island with all my heart, the people and their wonderful villages up in the mountain, the sailing tourists who have such a wonderful time, the color oh the colors, the hours and hours and hours I have spent underwater off Tortola. It is a beautiful island full of wonderful people. I am so worried.

I am , of course, worried about all of you. I have been to so many of the islands to dive but Tortola was the one that felt like home.

Good luck, stay safe malaise.

My good friend returned to JA yesterday - said he has no plan dying in a hurricane.
I don't know how those islands will recover from this one.

The only thing that might possible minimize some of the damage to Tortola is it is surrounded by other islands. Virgin Gorda could absorb a bit as it is East of Tortola and the littler islands I do not remember well enough to know if there is enough substance there to slow anything down. We always were right around Road Town. With that little inlet there they could get clobbered. I hope there are enough slips that the boats can be moved to Soaper's Hole. I don't know if that will maybe be a better place, I know tornados intimately but the only hurricane I was in was just the early evacuation of the Bahamas. Rough small plane ride and a lot of rain but not a hurricane yet.

*Oops, I just checked myself, Soaper's Hole is not on the other side, I was thinking about Long Bay Beach. *sigh* Holding that island (all actually but that one specially) in my heart.

I spent a long part of my life hanging out around the Caribbean once or twice every year. If things had gone the way they were supposed to go I would have been living in Tortola for the last 10-15 years. If I could find a farm sitter and was not expecting my first grandchild I would find a way there to help them clean up.

I also had a spot on the Big Island Hawaii in an arts community but it was still so USA in most parts and the native Hawaiians did not want more non native people moving in so we dropped that.

Hoping you stay safe through this season. I never got to spend any time in Jamaica

We are seeing what used to be a normal pattern of a sequence of storms being born off the coast of Africa, and tracking towards the west.
Hurricane season typically runs from June to Nov, and this is the most active time, historically.

And the Caribbean is my chosen vacation place. I have been to St. Maarten, St. Kitts & Nevis, and Antigua, with plans to go to St. Croix next year. I love them all, want to see more and more.

How do people on the islands ever stay safe?

(Jamaica story - a gentleman at the Jamaica Inn was named "F.S. Ellis - for fast and sweet." Every night when I came down for dinner, he would go on and on: "You look ravishing tonight, ma'am, but if I say it again, your husband, he will kill me, ma'am.&quot
