we live in a country that is being ruled for 35% of the population. (Original Post) spanone Sep 2017 OP

...the HARD CORE tRump*s base is approximately 26% of the electorate. Everything he says and does is designed to play to that base.

I know it is just anecdotal data but my Republican friends and family members go to the polls and vote Republican even if they don't like the candidates the GOP has put up. I can't say the same for my Democratic friends who sometimes sit out elections or vote third party as a few of them did in 2016 because they didn't like Hillary or think she was progressive enough.

Most non-voters fit the profile of people who should be voting Democratic. They are more likely to be young, poor or working-class and non-white so it is a travesty that we don't get more of these folks out to vote.

we're seeing the developments and fruits of 40 years of extremely not-serious responses to fascism, racism, and sexism in our midst, laying groundwork for the absolute failure of our democracy. i hope people wiser than i can see through the veneers and shadow plays in the body politic to locate the true causal factors so they can be re-examined and (i hope) neutered before they cause even more irreparable harm to what remains of our nation.

"the rest of us can go fuck ourselves..."

Or we can vote rather than maintaining our near-the-back position trailing most developed countries in voter turnout.

I'll work to see my solution come to fruition as you work to see yours in kind.
