Many of the Dreamers are young adults with families of their own, spouses and kids who are American citizens. There could hundreds of thousands people, children that are at risk of losing one or both parents, so what happens to them? Trump cavalierly said he round them all up, the entire family, even American citizens, and ship them all out. That's illegal, he can't deport American citizens, right? If they stay, them how is Trump going to justify adding all those dependents to the welfare system?
Dreamers are also parenting and supporting their younger siblings who are American citizens. What happens to those kids, will Trump ship them off too, or warehouse them in the foster system?
Dreamers own businesses, cars, homes, and all the other possessions that come with living in America, does Trump pay to move their stuff, or compensate them fairly for their loss, or does he claim everything as an asset forfeiture since the Dreamers are "illegal"?

(6,039 posts)before it was too late. Aubrey Boag writes about the mixed messages many Jews received both from the government and other Germans from 1933 forward to 1941 (just eight years) when escape finally became impossible:
They Expected the Worst-They did not Expect the Unthinkable

(63,221 posts)through. An especially chilling passage:
"Jews consistently held on to the hope that the Nazis would fall from power or their radicalism restrained throughout the duration of the Regime. However, their hopes were not farfetched considering they had recently witnessed political parties enter and leave ruling coalitions through the revolving doors during the Weimar Republic. It is also significant to remember that although yes, there was an initial period of violence after Hitler was elected, state authorities did eventually put an end to these antisemitic riots, and the violence actually subsided between 1934 and 1938. Given this fact, it is no wonder Jewish men and women perceived the threat of Nazism after Hitler's election as they did; it was very probable that Hitler and the Nazi Party were merely passing through the government."
What if Trump and his kind, both within the government and without, are not "merely passing through"? What if they remain in power for a long time. I shudder to think of how bad things can get. Even 1 year ago, I never imagined things could get so bad in such a short period of time. I think it would be a big mistake for us to be complacent and just assume "Well, it can't happen here".
