Memphis prepares to remove Confederate statues

If the Tennessee Historical Commission denies a request to remove Memphis' Confederate statues, Memphis will remove the statues anyway, City Council members said Tuesday.
Council members unanimously voted in executive committee to recommend approval of an ordinance that requires immediate removal of the statues after Oct. 13, the date of the commission's next meeting.
The council is expected to finally approve the ordinance in its 3:30 p.m. meeting.
The vote came after council attorney Allan Wade said he thinks the city has a legal case for removing the statues immediately based on a Supreme Court of the United States decision requiring equal access to parks, regardless of race ...
