In a rebuke to Republican leaders, Trump backed Democrats' plan to support a deal that would fund Hurricane Harvey aid but only raise the debt ceiling for three months. Those two items would also be tied to a measure to keep the government open through the end of December, setting up a hugely complicated year end crush of must-pass items.
Ignoring the advice of Republican congressional leadership and that of his own treasury secretary, Trump said he wanted a solution and supported the Democratic plan, according to a source briefed on a meeting that Trump held with congressional leaders Wednesday.

(51,432 posts)think that was possible. I thought his expression when McCain gave the thumbs down on ACA Repeal was pretty bad but this tops it. They showed a picture of Schummer, Pelosi and McConnell speaking with 45 in the W House during the meeting. Ryan is pissed off too. GOOD!
Of course the fake prez will changet his mind "in two weeks" or maybe two hours (like with tweet about DACA).

(811 posts)you are also guilty of dodging the point.
You blasted the idea that Donald Trump would or could ever positively change his position on any issue, and excoriated Dianne Feinstein for urging him to do so (in how many threads was that?), and now you post about an example that completely undercuts your point.
And you post music videos as a response?

We both agree that Donald Trump is an odious pig. It sickens me that he is in the Oval Office and I'm certain I speak for both of us.
To limit the damage, in my estimation, we need to attempt to bend this asshole in the right direction when we are able and to resist him when we can't. These are the same points made by Sen. Feinstein, who is a pretty smart politician.

(4,423 posts)at their own peril, when you have your opponent on the ropes you don't help them by going to your corner or giving them a breather, the worst possible scenario for the Democratic party is a Trump polling at 50 percent or better, just watch when the deals start the entire #resist movement will have been worthless.

(24,378 posts)Give him a small "victory," and before long he will find himself turning to the Ds to get things done. At that point, all the Ds need do is point out that the Rs are worthless, and that the reason nothing is getting done is because their policies are crap and the American people hate them. It then becomes a small matter of convincing tRump that his poll numbers would go up a lot if he would work with Ds to adopt D policies, policies most Americans want.
tRump only needs to get 3 R Senators to side with any deal he makes with the Ds. The House might be trickier, but as the elections loom and House Rs realize their party is dragging them down, enough could switch their votes to enable a pro-D agenda to move thru Congres and to be enacted.
