As of this writing, there are five threads on the DU home page - yes FIVE - once again refighting the primary. Both Hillary and Bernie did any number of things wrong and both did any number of things right. However, that's all in the PAST! Does everyone really want to keep on re-fighting ancient history and bashing Hillary/bashing Bernie when:
1) Trump is doing his best to get us into a war with N Korea and alienating as many of our allies as he possibly can?
2) 800,000 dreamers have been betrayed by Trump ending DACA?
3) The strongest Hurricane in a century has just decimated Houston, and another may well be headed toward Florida?
4) Climate change is ramping up all over the earth and we are quickly losing the window to prevent the more drastic impacts of global warming (see above)?
5) The repugs are back in session and hoping to push thru tax cuts for the uber wealthy at the expense of affordable housing thru HUD, food stamps, meals on wheels for the elderly, medicare/medicaid, programs to help Americans with disabilities, the EPA, NOAA, the NIH, the infrastructure, and many, many more.
6) Women across the country are losing control of their own reproductive rights.
7) The so-called president is doing his best to encourage white supremacists and attacks on minorities of every single possible kind.
8) The education of our young people is under attack - public schools are underfunded and being replaced by elitist charter schools that often only a few can afford. Tuition at public universities just keeps going through the roof and young college graduates are facing an ever accumulating mountain of debt.
9) THE MIDTERMS ARE APPROACHING!
I left out all sorts of other stuff, but I know the folks here can easily fill in all the rest of the blanks.
Frankly, my dear I don't give a damn about what Bernie said or what Hillary said. I refuse to expend any further energy on that particular dead end.
I'm hoping that if I take a couple of days off, we will back on message again. This divisive infighting is extremely discouraging, to say the least.

(46,166 posts)But I'll tell you what I've decided just on the off chance it can help. I'm starting to delete threads of that nature. Just seeing them there can get me down. So rather than trying to ignore them I hit that delete the thread button.
Have a great break and we'll see you on the flip side.

(46,166 posts)There's other little things that can be implemented to craft the atmosphere for your needs. You can even put a DUer on "ignore". I haven't done that in ages but sometimes it can make for a more pleasant experience until they get banned, lol. You don't even see their replies to your postings.
See ya!

(3,433 posts)I came to the site a few years ago and I have come and gone so many times because of situations like this. It's not so much the refighting of the primaries ( which quite frankly has never really stopped... people toss remarks all the time) it is the constant repeating of the same subject over and over again. It's a variation on a theme without the nuanced examination of the subject.
Even that would be tolerable if were not for the histrionics and passive aggressive posts directed at those who diaagree even if dissent is offered politely. It is the never ending condemnation for prior decisons and political opinion; the demand for absolute adhearance to a narrative. I am not talking about supporting Democrat candidates, I believe everyone here does. I refer to behavior such we saw when Confederate memorials, the flag etc were beginning to be widely condemned after Dylan Roof committed those horrible murders. Many posters were stating that there were no true democrats in the South that northern democrats were superior in every way. It was a completely ridiculous and bigoted notion yet it was embraced by a great many. It's the same moral superiority and virtue signaling today. I am sick of it.

(31,261 posts)Indies and Dems make up 140,000, republicans 102,000. Dems alone 77,000. This used to be a really red county with repugs swamping Dems 3:1.

(6,551 posts)I know that I sometimes let myself get drawn in to commenting on one of those threads. But I'd support simply banning all Hillary-Bernie threads. It's a huge distraction from what DU should be focusing on.
Wish we could do it.

(51,583 posts)so I fortunately missed all the Bernie/Hillary stuff that I read about sometimes. I have often said to myself that I am glad I wasn't aware DU at the time. There is enough to focus on NOW that is important.

(31,261 posts)I forgot my old password and followed the procedure but got no response, so I lurked until the Admins allowed new account setups after the hack.
What I saw were people of both sides that I liked at eachother's throats, trying to rip them out. Alert stalking was commonplace and triggered on a hair. It got so bad I left and tried another site where things were not as bad, but the format there sucked, so I came back. With the Our Revolution people mouthing off, I would not be surprised to see Democrats savaged in primaries in 2018 and if Our Revolution lose the primary, them supporting independents in the general while attacking the Democrat.
There are some that I don't miss, like the poster MannyGoldstein, who ALWAYS attacked Democrats, but I never saw him go after a republican.

(7,220 posts)One would almost think they were trolls, trying to divide (or at least make us weary and give up). Wish the admins would realize this and do something about it (separate area for circular firing squad, for instance).
It's very annoying at least, and too often it's disheartening and damaging.
Best to you!

(34,059 posts)I signed in to alert on one of the worst, got called to jury duty before I could hit the alert button - on the thread I signed in to alert on. The jury left it standing. I alerted on it for a different (also applicable reason) and the jury reviewing it on that basis left it standing, as well.
Way too much jury nullification going on.

(6,390 posts)...trash the threads. Not worth the effort. Blame can be placed in a lot of places, but it won't get rid of the Moscow Mule in the oval office. Continuing the divide works in his favor.

(25,922 posts)I do, however, avoid threads where the primaries are being rehashed. The title alone is usually a dead giveaway. If a thread starts going downhill, I'm outta there toot sweet. FWIW, there are plenty of threads discussing the issues of real importance, and I read those. I don't bother trying to decipher motives for the rehash threads; if some choose to expend their energy on message-board wanking, that's their bidness.

(1,002 posts)I'm not going to get pushed out by this foolishness. Don't even DREAM you can get rid of me that easily! A bit of time spent engaging my mind on more pleasant matters, and I'll be ready to fight the good fight once again - with the caveat that the animosity between the supporters of Clinton vs. Bernie Supporters is not a "good fight."
