I am sorry I cannot give credit to the DU member who first posted this photo a few days ago.
It is one of 2 that will stay in my memory of 2017.
of all the incredible fires in the Pac. NW, this pic pretty much describes the worst of it.

(4,053 posts)because of a 15yo with a firecracker. I'm heartbroken. This is 10 miles from my house. I'm in a level 1 evacuation zone. Just a little of what we lost: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/25/oneonta-falls_n_5364489.html

I realize that Portland is not the epicenter of the fires. The friend did say there was a fair amount of ash coming down. It's making him wonder just how bad it must have been when Mount St. Helen's went off.

(24,718 posts)For almost 40 years. On the dry east side of the Washington Cascades. Seen my share of fires. In fact, lost my home in a forest fire in 1994. Toxic smoky here today.
Of some solace: it does come back. To a greater or lesser degree, depending on severity. It will never be the same in our lowly lifetimes, but, ultimately, Mother Nature does prevail.
Now, are we in a new paradigm? I'd say so. But I still believe in her power. We'd just better step back and let her rip. 'Cause rip she will.

I love knowing my 2 sons are still living up there, the oldest has a degree in Wildlife management, camps almost every weekend if he can, totally gets the magic of the wilderness areas.
and right now he is furious over all these fires and destruction.
