This Ta-Nehisi-Coats essay...is one for the ages.

This is difficult reading. Am buying The Atlantic today, so I may yellow highlight darn near every word.

This resonates so much with me because Just yesterday I wrote here at DU, how "seasoned politicos know fully well that words used as weapons, matter."
Coats writes brilliantly that words used to polite-away the heart of Trump voters is to deny the on-going struggle for equality.

While his content is overwhelming to digest...somehow, it flows like a thirst quenching rushing river. I love this man and his gift.

Talking about Trump white voter thinking:

"It is as if the white tribe united in demonstration to say, “If a black man can be president, then any white man—no matter how fallen—can be president.”

It was their reasoning to excuse any and all behaviour of their great white hope. That ANY white man, no matter how deplorable, was better than a black man, no matter how decent. That it all balanced out in the pigment of the skin.

The Atlantic to give away.

I've noticed all over DU, newer discussions about the topic of the profile of the Trump voter.

None of those discussions take into account this essay. I guess it's too long....

Ta Nehisi Coates is a brilliant writer. I saved his "The Case for Reparations" that he wrote for the Atlantic in 2014, and this piece is every bit as brilliant.
