Alabama Republican Rep. Rogers DESTROYED Key Hurricane Monitoring Satellite(article title)

Don't know if anybody posted about this story or not, my apologies if they have. Anyway, the lack of forward thinking by Republicans is amazing. They didn't think it was a good idea to keep/or launch another weather sat but it is a good idea to keep funding going for those admittedly bummy ass F-35 jets.

At this point in man's history whats more useful. A high tech weather satellite that can provide advanced insight into the Earths rapidly changing ecosystems? Or a military jet program that doesn't do what it's supposed to do and probably should have been scrapped years ago? Aren't some of the most popular Republican mating calls along the lines of not throwing good money after bad and getting return on interest? Ain't much ROI on planes that can't be flown.

During a House Armed Services Committee hearing on acquisition reform, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) said Congress had lost confidence in the Air Force’s ability to run its legacy weather satellite program. Rogers chairs the House Armed Services strategic forces subcommittee, which provides oversight of military satellites. …

“We could have saved the Air Force and the Congress a lot of aggravation if we put a half of a billion dollars in a parking lot and just burned it,” he said. …

In the massive omnibus spending bill for fiscal year 2016, lawmakers provided no funding for DMSP and the bill denied $120 million of funding to launch DMSP-20 around 2018. The combination effectively ended the program. The Air Force had spent $518 million on the satellite, Rogers said.

Instead, he said, the money set aside for DMSP could have been spent on other national security priorities, but now the satellite is “going in the trash. I presume it’s going to be made into razor blades.”

The DMSP mission is to observe weather conditions in adversary nations and along their borders to support strategic military operations planning.

The title is misleading, although it was a dick move by Rogers.
