Hillary Clinton is out of the woods. After launching a new political action group earlier this year, the former Secretary of State and 2016 presidential candidate just announced the title of her new book about the election What Happened.
"In the past, for reasons I try to explain, I've often felt I had to be careful in public, like I was up on a wire without a net. Now I'm letting my guard down," Clinton writes in the book's introduction.
"In these pages," the publisher shares, "she describes what it was like to run against Donald Trump, the mistakes she made, how she has coped with a shocking and devastating loss, and how she found the strength to pick herself back up afterwards."
<snip>
Some Twitter users made sure to point out how the book's immediate success contradicted recent requests that the former candidate "stop talking about 2016" or "go quietly into the night" as some headlines have put it.
What Happened isn't the only political book we have to look forward to in the coming months. Barack and Michelle Obama are both working on new books of their own, and books featuring photos of their time in the White House will also be released later this year.

It is already #1 on Amazon, a bestseller entirely on pre-orders and will continue to climb other lists. I'm waiting for my copy to be shipped on the 12th, and I almost never pay retail for books any more. Btw, the hardcover price is $17.99 on Prime, no shipping.

But clearly others were also offended because the post was removed by jury soon after posting.

(4,112 posts)Actually, maybe four, come to think of it. One hard cover for signing when I go to the event in Brookfield CT, and a second one as a gift for my niece who did a lot of volunteer work for Hillary in NC. I'll buy a digital version for ease of reading during my commute, and maybe the fourth for my mom, who is a big Hillary fan.

(51,584 posts)I still want a do-over from the Fed Election votes down to local dog catcher. People voted down ballot and that is why we are still the minority in Congress. If our country can support fair elections in a zillion countries for as long as I can remember, why can't we nullify and void the entire past election!? I think Kenya just did this. We should practice what we preach. And do not give me any "this is not in the constitution" BS. The founding fathers didn't put a lot in the Constitution. That is what amendments are all about. The country changes (like with guns and rights of the 2nd amend) and the constitution is a guideline. This would set a precedent. Period. It can be done! So can getting rid of the electoral college and using the popular vote. The founding fathers did not imagine that gerrymandering would be commonplace either.

You can't say it's #1 in all books when you've filtered out other categories.

(23,018 posts)Currently, this hour, it's #1 in (pre)sales. And it makes sense for all the press the book as gotten in the last 24 hours. But it won't stay that way for long (it's already been dropping in it's position overall).

(23,018 posts)I think there is something wrong with Amazon's data because her book is #1 overall but #2 in Memoirs... not sure how that can be...

#5 in all books, really?

Just as 2016 was the most existential election any of us have lived through so far, 2018 will be the most important midterm.
