Possibly locals can use local roads to go south???? Might be tough in some spots, but at least they could open them up overnight???
I know that's happened before. Seems like it's time to do that.
I would have left days ago, but some aren't that lucky.
I also think the state should improve highways: Make some more escape routes through rural areas.

(111,245 posts)to get to a place far enough away from the coast for safety. In addition, one lane at least has to be kept open for things like emergency vehicles and gasoline delivery trucks. Since panicky people often don't respect that, the lanes aren't opened up. Florida still has huge tracts of undeveloped land and often you have to go the wrong way to get to a road that will take you the right way.
