Judge Rules Dallas Can Remove Lee Statue

The City of Dallas can proceed again in taking down a statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee from a public park, a day after a federal judge halted the removal at the last minute.
Workers were moments away on Wednesday from using a crane to lift the Confederate monument out of Robert E. Lee Park, a prominent green space in the center of the city, when the judge granted a temporary restraining order to stop it. But at a hearing on Thursday, Judge Sidney Fitzwater of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas dismissed the lawsuit, which was brought by a Dallas resident and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
The plaintiffs argued that the City Council, which had voted earlier on Wednesday to immediately remove the statue, had violated their First Amendment rights. The city said in a statement after the court hearing on Thursday that there was "no time frame for removal of the statue" ...
