The US Open has two African-American finalists playing for the title.

Three of the four US Open semi-finalists are African-American.

How tennis has changed. The whitest of white sports.

First, all four semi-finalists are American. It has been a long time since that happened. Since the '80s.

the final will be Sloan Stephens vs. Madison Keys. Sloane beat Venus, and Madison beat Coco Vandeweghe, the sole caucasian in the semis. Coco is niece of Kiki, for you old time NBA fans.

Many thought the the Williams sisters an anomaly, a unique circumstance. Tennis still doesn't have a wide minority presence.

It is significant that all four semi-finalists are American. This is huge for American women's tennis.

It is even more significant that three of four are minorities.

Nope, it's been done before.

16 years ago in 2001 by the Williams Sisters.

Don't be surprised when people get pissed that you've pointed out their ignorance of the sport.

Next thing, they'll tell us that the NFL now has a black QB.

The OP wrote up the story as if this was the first time that there were 2 African-Americans in the finals of the US Open. I could see if the OP said for the 2nd time, we have 2 African-American ladies in the US Open finals. The wording should have been a bit different.

It's like, did I not WATCH and tape that match back from 2001 LIVE or what?

This is some BS. As in the statement itself.

Where is Ta-Nehisi Coats when folks need his truth. Oh, right here....

For Trump, it almost seems that the fact of Obama, the fact of a black president, insulted him personally.

The insult intensified when Obama and Seth Meyers publicly humiliated him at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2011. But the bloody heirloom ensures the last laugh. Replacing Obama is not enough—Trump has made the negation of Obama’s legacy the foundation of his own. And this too is whiteness.

“Race is an idea, not a fact,” the historian Nell Irvin Painter has written, and essential to the construct of a “white race” is the idea of not being a nigger. Before Barack Obama, niggers could be manufactured out of Sister Souljahs, Willie Hortons, and Dusky Sallys."

Change the names and the passage work just the same on a "Not A Significant Development" BS.

Also, PS or #FYI -- Neither Venus or Serena will be in the US Open Finals. Serena just had a little Baby Girl and Venus was beat in the Semifinals by Sloane Stephens -- who is African-American. Stephens will be joined in the finals by Madison Keys - who is Bi-Racial (African-American and Caucasian).

So can we just say, this reply was totally not significant. Yes, we can....

I was kinda rooting for Venus, but it's very good to see the young players breaking through. And you can't underestimate the impact Serena has had on American Tennis and the players coming up behind her.

But this middle age, southern, white male was all excited about it being all American. And I truly did not once think about the races of the players until I read about here. I can assure you that at 20 I could not have made that statement.

I am proof that people can change.

Since all the players are Americans, and I do not follow Tennis at all, I really do not care who wins.

I have been watching as more and more African Americans show up in tennis and I love it!

I was sad that Venus lost, I have not been able to keep up with most of this the last two days. I am very happy not to have Coco there. She rubs me all the wrong ways.

I could care less about what country my tennis favorites come from but the addition of more African Americans is indeed something to be happy about.
