I haven't heard that they have enrolled Barron in a Washington school. Is he returning to his former school. Are they private tutoring, or what? I feel sorry for the kid being loaded down with this family. He probably doesn't understand half of what is going on.

(146,287 posts)There's too much else going on that actually matters to worry about Melania and Barron. I can't think of any reason such things matter to anyone except them.

(23,339 posts)Other than that, right, who cares?

(146,287 posts)I guess we won't have to worry about that extra cost. Now, back to devastating hurricanes, earthquakes in Mexico and almost 800,000 young immigrants worried about being deported...

(16,254 posts)but, as a mother of 3 and grandmother/great-grandmother, I have learned to multi-task, which also includes staying abreast of what is going on in this crazy world.
I guess I need to keep my questions to myself?

(146,287 posts)My point is that it's not really all that important. As it turns out, there has been news coverage that answers your question, anyhow. Someone Googled "Barron Trump School," or some similar phrase, apparently, and found the Newsweek story that covers his enrollment in a school near DC.
As for Melania, she has been traveling around with Trump on a regular basis. Were she moving back to New York, I'm sure that would have been in the news, as well.
Neither Barron nor Melania have any real role in government, so whether they go or stay will not affect anything, really.
I'm glad someone looked that up for you and provided an answer. But, I wasn't upset. I just commented on your post.

(57,414 posts)That phrase exactly.
I do favor letting him be a kid, but the story that he has started school made the NYT, Newsweek, probably the WaPo and the local Montgomery County edition of Patch too. The print paper in Montgomery County, the Montgomery County Sentinel, threw in the towel about two years ago and is now an online-only operation. I didn't check past the first hit, at Newsweek.
I went through what Barron is going through. I genuinely wish him well. I do hope he gets the privacy he deserves.

(146,287 posts)Melania is marginally more interesting, since she often is a straight man for Trump on his travels. She gives the press something to comment on, like her stiletto heels, so they can discuss something other than the moron in the White House.
But, Barron? He's a kid in school. He says nothing, does nothing, and is of no news interest at all. He's a kid. I feel for him, of course. It's tough being in his position. I say leave him alone and hope he gets through all of this intact.

(22,034 posts)The extra costs associated with protecting part of his family in New York City have been significant to the NYPD's budget.
Additionally, it has been remarkably inconvenient for many New Yorkers to have the additional security around Trump Tower because of blocked streets and sidewalks. The building is on Fifth Avenue and 57th Street which is one of the busiest intersections in the world.
As usual, Trump's selfishness has cost taxpayers and inconvenienced many people. He's a jackass and an idiot.

(22,034 posts)My response was to point out that there were reasons some people might be interested in whether or not Mrs. Trump and her son would stay in D.C. during the school year.
You and I both love the Google. It provides so much information and most of it's true!
By the way, most New Yorkers really don't know how to relax. (wink)

(28,394 posts)Barron is supposed to attend some exclusive private school in VA. Not going to Sidwell Friends where the Obama girls and Chelsea Clinton attended. I think Sasha is a senior at Sidwell this year? Not sure.
I also feel sorry for that boy. He never looks very happy.

(7,185 posts)Just saying. Leave Barron alone.
1. I know that. I was replying to the OP.
2. I didn't say anything negative about Barron except that he looks unhappy.

(57,414 posts)I sympathize with Barron, and I wish him well. He is clearly uncomfortable in the public eye. I am quite familiar with the social anxiety that he is experiencing. I went through that too. It's no fun.
Sorry for the all-caps.

Some 56 million students are heading back to school in the U.S. this fall, but one 11-year-old may have an especially tough time blending in with his classmates: Barron Trump.
The first son had his first day of school Tuesday at St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland, a private institution about 30 minutes away from the White House, according to The New York Times. A sea of Trump fans wished the sixth-grader good luck on Twitter as experts weighed in about what his school life might be like.

Barron is not only the new kid at school, he's a new resident of Washington, D.C. Barron and his mom delayed their move to the capital after President Donald Trump's November victory so he could finish the year at the Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School in New York City. Just before they relocated, first lady Melania Trump announced Barron's enrollment at St. Andrew's.
"It is known for its diverse community and commitment to academic excellence," she said in a statement. "The mission of St. Andrew's is 'to know and inspire each child in an inclusive community dedicated to exceptional teaching, learning, and service,' all of which appealed to our family." ... The school has 580 students, and about 42 percent are children of color, according to its website.
