my friend in NY sent me this email about her elderly parents in Florida. I don't know what town yet. I feel I can share this as there are no names mentioned. But is this going on other places and who do we contact?..or at least notify that this is happening..
"Please keep my mom in your prayers along with others in Irma's wake. The hospital made my mom along with other family members and visitors to leave the hospital with police help leaving only patients in the hospital. They made an almost 84 year old woman who is profoundly hearing impaired, to go home and sit the hurricane out on her own. I tried to reason with these people stating they have been married for 63 years and are never apart. She slept at the hospital with him since he was admitted. They were rude and disgusting. I said if they loose electricity, she won't be able to read her captel phone (it writes the conversation on the screen). I asked how would she know what happened if something happened to my dad. Deaf ears. She fears he will die without her. No compassion. Thanks."

(17,002 posts)Call the hospital administrator. Go all the way up the chain. If she starts to get flack, ask them who should she have her lawyer contact. May also want to try to speak with a hospital social worker. Spin it that it will negatively impact her father's health if he is deathly worried about his wife. Hospitals can do what they want... barking loudly to the right people can help them figure out what they really want to do.

(16,334 posts)there's no way to know who to call if you don't know where they are. Family in Florida said they were asked to evacuate and if they don't have the means, they are bused to a shelter.
Can you find out more?

(51,308 posts)It's specifically to help people get to shelters.
They announce it at every press conference, but I'm sure it can be googled.
