1. Supporting it and getting there are (unfortunately) two different things.

I think most Democrats theoretically support it, but know that it was not an achievable goal before the ACA. Now that the ACA is beginning to work, it has become a much more achievable goal. At least that's the way I see it.

I think we're headed in that direction. It will be a long road before we get there.

America isn't ready for socialized medicine yet (they are 83 and pretty wise).

Why do you think it won'the happen?

I bought my first house with a VA loan and got VA education benefits. But I never used any VA health benefits.

I've been curious why he is publicly weighing in on this issue. I do think folks are ready to hear the argument for single payer.

Now he says this. Now, when we could have been well on our way if we'd had his help in 2009 (a public option would have opened the door).

He "steered the bill toward the center" all right, with endless hearings and sweeteners for his repuke colleagues, and in return got not a single vote from them. In short they rolled him!

He did get a nice carve-out for his constituents in Libby. So that was nice for them (iirc Medicare buy-in). Clearly he knew there was a better way to go. And we wouldn't be sweating repeal now because the whole thing would have been much more popular.
