Normally I love Maher, but his liberal bashing is getting out of hand! It's like every week he finds some way to pick a fight with liberals, and he invites the most airheaded people on his show like SE Cupp and Tomi Lahren. Look, we live in a time where neo Nazis are coming out of their safe spaces, and the democrats and liberals are the problem? GTFO!!!
Anyone else agree or am I going crazy? Normally he has a lot of great insights, but his liberal bashing is getting old. The GOP has always been the problem and they always will be the problem. The GOP is anti-progress, and we have a president who is rolling back decades of progress to please his white supremacist base. The democrats are not the problem, Bill. It's conservatives.

(25,856 posts)I stopped watching him years ago because of that.
I don't understand the infatuation with him on the part of so many liberals. It's as if they don't really listen to what he says.

(6,399 posts)We live in a world where we view others only as extremes and put them in mental buckets of good and bad because of that.

(58,785 posts)ruined him for this liberal a long time ago. I'm a very strong liberal, too, but there are really profound differences between liberals and radicals and others farther left.
Absolutely no surprise he's gotten worse. They all have. Political scientists say zealots from both right and left are animated by a rigid, overweening righteousness, and inevitably they are swelled with years of resentment that no one else recognizes that they are The Wise Ones. So no surprised that both become energized, even joyful, by disasters and widespread anxiety about the future. Every problem is proof They Were Right.
And everyone else is wrong. Given the rank, destructive stupidity of the liberals running the Democratic Party, to the point of evil, can anyone blame them for being hostile?

(46,327 posts)Not only does he bash liberals, he's simply a total asshole.
Add to that his anti-vaccination lunacy, and you have nearly the "perfect storm" of a beyond-the-pale asshole.

(111,256 posts)He does wish liberals would get into the mosh pit the way the Old Guard used to do and he's sick of politicians who react to GOP outrage with silent fury. Let the fuckers have, they deserve it.
He's got a point.
I can imagine LBJ if the Orange Maggot had tried to invade his space at a debate. The Maggot would have been left sniveling and without a single blow being struck.
It's one reason Middle America doesn't think Democrats care enough about anything to stand up for it.

(111,256 posts)because they think somebody else's widdle feewings might get hurt (they're never offended for themselves). Usually it's something really innocuous and not nearly as offensive as some young punk trying to lecture an elder. They don't enjoy it much and they tend to leave me alone after that. Too bad, they need to be educated more.
Honestly, they want to turn all speech into the verbal equivalent of calendar art featuring pretty little cows grazing on pretty little hillsides and nothing to challenge anyone out there to think.
Free speech isn't absolute, and people who go out of their way to insult other people had better develop fast reflexes. However, I'm firmly opposed to any government censorship. Oh, maybe the FTC should require Pox to change its name to Pox Propaganda, since they lie so much about news, but that's about it.

(51,590 posts)I was thinking that very thought earlier today but every time I mention it on DU I get rude feedback so I stopped.
Bill can be sexist. Once he dismissed Gloria Steinem when she correctly told him that 45 had many bankruptcies and Bill blew her off completely.

(111,256 posts)The stupid ass "campaign handlers" had obviously stuffed him full of the worst advice he could possibly have gotten. I had seen enough of Kerry around Boston to know he could have sliced and diced Shrub to mincemeat but somehow, he felt he was not permitted to.
Enough. Keep those jerks in their lobbying jobs in election years, hire fund raisers instead, and encourage the scrappy candidates we do have to be themselves.

(89,249 posts)Kerry did easily beat Bush in the debates but the republicans media latched on to his "global test" comment and it was close to 9/11 and there was a terrorist attack in russia and they made it seem as if Kerry will not be quick to defend.
Warpy
(111,256 posts)And Gore could have sliced and diced just as well had he not been given such bad advice. Kerry beat Bush because Bush never answered any of the questions, just gave canned speeches to keywords. Nobody cared because he wasn't called on it.
This "civility" stuff works well only when one's opponent is civilized.

(19,201 posts)was probably talking about Hillary's new book. She wrote about Trump coming up behind her during one of the debates, and she asked herself if she should confront him and tell him to "back off", or just ignore him. She ignored him, and Maher was jumping all over her to confront him. It's that "grow a spine" deal all over again. Doesn't matter much now, it's water under the bridge, but in the future? I think we could all stand up for ourselves a little better when confronted by these assholes. My opinion.

His studio audience does tend to lean progressive, to be sure. But Bill is a comedian, and he'll make fun of anyone.

(5,042 posts)Maher bashes all religions, but for some reason the five minutes he might spend condemning radical Islam is the only thing anyone here wants to complain about while having nothing to say about the fact the rest of the program is ripping the radical Christian nuts ruining this country.
Your own post alone makes his point....that the mere presence of "the other side" so completely angers you that you can't handle it. Any conservative/Republican who goes on his show gets pretty well savaged and spends 95% of the time being a punching bag, the show would be boring as hell without that. It's a lot different than a talking news head inviting a right winger on a news show and not challenging them.

(5,599 posts)That would have advised her to write a book when she is raw and publish in her emotional state. She should have written the book as catharsis, put it on a shelf for 2 years and then decided if she wanted to print it our edit it.
Any blame for the loss towards others at this point in time looks and sounds bad. All could be valid and true, but the majority are not going to look at her kindly for it.
I have no idea who her advisers are??? Sycophants that can't say what needs to be said?? We are talking about how the masses are going to receive her book, not her her diehard fans.
