Interesting come-to-science conversation from Governor Rick Scott.

Last night Rick Scott made a major pro-climate change appeal to politicians in his own party who didn't believe in it. It was a response to a question from a reporter. I hope someone recorded it so we can play it over again for Trump and the Republican House and Senate to hear.

BTW, Scott lives in Naples. His eyes are wide open now that there's a 12 foot surge projected for the sections of the west coast.

They have a very insular, round the wagons mentality. They treat their own neighbors like outsiders.

So, yes. The only time that they even remotely appear to "get it" is when they're personally affected, and a microphone is nearby to catch their unguarded moments.

When the time comes they will claim they are for science and have always been for science. It will be about the time that the petro-companies finally capitulate and acknowledge anthropogenic climate change, ... when they finally see a quarterly earnings report profit motive.

I recall how he declined the fed funds for a new railway system that would have gone north & south to span the whole state. That was during Obama's administration, naturally. And if I recall right, California offered to take those funds.

Said something like, I can show you the numbers. They are coming in with predictions that are accurate and we are relying on those reports.

Today, Rick Scott is a believer -- in science.

(Seriously though, how is it possible that a military man, a Navy man for that matter, can come out of the military without believing in math and science. Really having trouble understanding what goes on in the heads of Republicans.)

This morning, at the beginning of an interview, he said to pray for us. Said it twice.

We can give him a break on this one. When you realize your town is about to get devastated, and you've done everything you can to evacuate people and get them out of harm's way, the only option left is to pray.

I was watching Weather Channel. Jim Cantori was in Ft. Myers and did live interview with Scott. As you said, this affects him personally I suppose. We lived in Naples for 10 years until last February, and certainly had our fill of Scott. I've never seen him look or speak like this. Usually, HE elicits fear in others, especial little children in school.

My Nana used to say sometimes God works in strange ways. We can only hope this will be the case with him. My good vibes go out to all Floridians, and especially to those in my former city of Naples.

work together on common interests. Wish more of yall would start including that phrase in your vocabulary.

Its not clear to me from this guy's comments whether he is ready/willing to address root causes (eg greenhouse gasses) or merely looking for govt handouts to relocate businesses and homes to higher ground.

If the latter - then go jump in the lake Rick Scott..... errr I mean jump in the ocean storm surge soon to arrive on your shores. If the former, then lets work with him.

We liberal/lefties/progressives cannot fix it on our own.... in fact some of these are the biggest hypocrites and self-interested people on the planet. (Ex: food cooperative that wont take responsibilty for implementing & enforcing a no idling policy in parking lot or loading dock.)

comes around to our side on an issue we use that opportunity to bash and shame them, then how are we ever going to work together to meet our goals?

No one needs to pass a purity test to work with us an any particular issue. In fact, working together when we can is one way to build the bridges we need in order to work together on other issues in the future.

Edited to add: That said, let's see if he continues to ban the use of the words "climate change" "sea level rise" and "global warming" from state agency documents.

He claims to have spent billions on this or that, but Politifact reports on the falsity of such claims.

I don't know what he said last night. But I know the positions he's taken in the past. I'd like to think he sees the truth, now. But somehow I think he's pumping a bottle to make people feel good.

The more I listen to politicians, the more I think it's better to look at what they DO, not listen to what they SAY.
