Two moderate House Republicans announced surprise retirements this week, quickening the pulse of Republicans waiting to see if a wave of retirements will jeopardize the partys path to holding the House majority in 2018.
As President Trump fuels uncertainty in Washington and his low approval rating raises question about whether the GOP can hold the House, theres concern among Republicans that lawmakers facing tough reelection campaigns might begin to take the road of least resistance and retire.

I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Paul Ryan will be ssweating bullets from now until November 2018. He may be deposed well before that. Bad for Trump, good for Democrats.

(9,259 posts)Is one of those long-time Republican congresspersons who kept getting reelected because he's a genuinely nice guy who did a lot of good for his constituents (helped Grandpa get his veterans benefits, etc.) More popular than the GOP in general. This is a purple district and could go Dem with the right candidate.
