So many to choose from. Shelter in place. Hunker down. Praying for (insert city, state etc). Storm surge (great band name). Don't try this, they are professionals.
Got a favorite?

(3,569 posts)Regulations or licensing for contractors. Houston and S Texas will be enormous building projects. 200k houses. As many commercial properties. Schools.
All needing to be rebuilt. Without regulation or licensing of contractors.
Bigly fraud possibilities.

(34,136 posts)The regulations are serious and they have to pass some pretty tough exams. Plus they have to pass continuing education requirements to retain their licenses:
http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/pro/cilb/
They are proactive about encouraging people to check licenses and how to find a licensed contractor: http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/reg/ula.html
Anyone can check a a Florida business license online or by calling into the Department of Business & Professional Regulation so there is no excuse for hiring someone without verifying that they are currently licensed. http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/HowtoVerifyALicense.html

(3,569 posts)Same as CA. I remember there being a lack back when I was franchising. In the early nineties.

(34,136 posts)First was the amazing amount of property loss and some lives lost due to shoddy construction. Then the number of unscrupulous fake contractors who stole from people who were already desperate. That's when they tightened up the requirements and made it harder to become a contractor. Every so often some idiot tries to relax the standard but everyone who lived through Andrew - and any other hurricane or storm - pretty much tells them to STFU.

Most are moving at like 10 miles to 20 miles per hour.
Hard to think of that as "barreling"
