I live in Houston.
Been in three hurricanes so far.
The movie is about the Keys during an hurricane.
I love the movie and the actors.
For all the people in Florida take care.
Hurricane Ike is still fresh with me.
Rode it out at home.
Rode out Hurricane Carla at my Grandparents farm.
Hugs from Texas.

(18,319 posts)I was hoping it was on. I think it provides context for what is happening today. You see how the storm impacts the lives of real people of all types.
I work in a school, and we've been collecting baby formula and towels for the people of Texas. We will begin collecting this week for the people in the Caribbean and Florida.
I live in a community that was deeply affected by both 9/11 and Super Storm Sandy. This is the least we can do to try to pay back the kindness and community that we were shown when we needed help.
Thoughts and prayers are with you and with all affected by these terrible storms.

Double Indemnity
Brother Orchid
Larceny, Inc.
And a little-known gem available on YouTube: The Woman In The Window

(51,308 posts)When I lived in the Keys, we always watched it before a hurricane.
Great quote in there...one of the bad guys asks "what's a hurricane?"
And the good guy answers - "A hurricane is when the wind blows so hard that the ocean rises up on its hind legs and walks on the land."
Fantastic quote. Fantastic movie.
And the good guy was spot on.

(4,940 posts)I've been through a bunch of them, too, and got out of the way (Interior Alaska!)
The folks are going through what they're going through, and will depend on support from all of us. Watching a movie isn't going to change the course of the hurricane, or what's happening.
Hugs to all from Alaska, as well.

(7,813 posts)The hurricane was mostly a backdrop and an excuse for the people to be stuck in a place. It is a character drama and it shows how good a movie can be without CGI or other special effects.
