(9,527 posts)A disrespectful fan threw a bag of peanuts at me, Jones said, I was called the N-word a handful of times tonight.
Or the Bruins fans who tweeted "white power" at Joel Ward.
Or the fan who threw a banana at Wayne Simmonds.
Racism isn't a Texan thing. It is something far too many people from all areas of the country embrace.

(62,346 posts)Many years back when I would write letters to the editor I would get threats in the mail. Most these incredibly clever folks would put some clue in the letter as to who they were.
One even called me with a threat and proudly told me his name and address.
Hope they catch this clown.

(20,044 posts)"You're a nigger". I mean, do they think the targeted person doesn't know their own race? Like the person is going to check the mirror and scream when they see that they are black?
And who puts a RETURN ADDRESS on a letter threatening someone. The address listed, 1 Potomac, Houston 77057, is that of the Houston Country Club, but also for a physical therapist named Stephanie Walden. And if you ask me, that looks like a woman's handwriting.

(24,557 posts)But I don't think a physical therapist would take that risk.
My daughter is an OT and if she would ever be connected to something like that she would have her license revoked.

(17,984 posts)I read the accompanying article and it didn't mention what is being done about this. It just went into the game that prompted the letter. Seriously? I guess I just forgot that, in TX, it goes God, football, family in order of importance (and sometimes those first two are interchangeable).

(8,419 posts)ASU, The Arizona State University! The school that decided in 2009 Obama didn't deserve an honorary degree when he spoke at the graduation EVEN though all other speakers in previous years were granted an honorary degree. The President of the University Michael Crow had some lame assed excuse, Obama let is slide and the racists won.
So in 2011 ASU and A&M were both looking for coaches. Sumlin was on the list for both schools, A&M got Sumlin while ASU got Todd Graham.
Now Todd Graham was the coach at Pittsburgh and announced his leaving via a text. If it was a few years later is there any doubt it would have been a tweet?
So ASU got this bullshit Charlatan from Texas. A complete phony who plays up the GOD card. In fact when ASU beat Notre Dame a few years ago he claimed ASU was "God's Team or guided by God" Since anointing his teams God's Team, the team has gone 14 and 16, (wins/losses) and lost the last six games last year.
This year they struggled with that powerhouse team from New Mexico State University, but got a win, got smacked by San Diego State at home last night, and may not win another game all year. They might win a couple, but no way will they have a winning season. Grahams success was during the first three years, with the previous coaching staffs players and has regressed each year since.
Now Sumlin had a great first year, 11 and 2, then 9 and 4, and then 8 and 5 in every season. This in a conference that would be tougher top to bottom as compared to the ASU Pac12 conference.
Both coaches will be fired this year, in the list of coaches on the 'Hot Seat' these two are in the top three. Now Todd may not last the year because his team sucks, I MEAN REALLY REALLY SUCKS. He is a self proclaimed Defensive Guru, his defense has been last in the Country for the past two years and might make it three years running. Sumlin on the other hand will likely get to 8 wins again. The issue is, A&M alumni thinks they should be competing with Alabama, Ohio State, etc on a yearly basis. Now A&M was never that good but they have that expectation. ASU alumni think they should be a premier football school and in the top 10 every year. I think most of them have figured out they were delusional. Point being, one coach is horrible, a complete piece of shit, scam artist, while the other is basically performing to a level realistic to his University.
So Sumlin should be hired at ASU after both being fired, but it won't happen, because while they are over the delusion that they should be a top 10 team, the alumni still may object to one trait possessed by Sumlin. Graham on the other hand should be destined for some mid level high school in TX but may end up getting another chance as a coordinator on some other University that is a bit racists AND falls for the bullshit Christian shtick.

(29,322 posts)though they both run a spread -- I'd rather have Stanford's playbook but the SEC is not that tough. The SEC West is the toughest conference but the Pac 12 north is right behind him plus those SEC West schools get better recruits outside of USC who usually have a top 5 or top 10 recruiting class. Plus I think the bottom of the Pac 12 is a lot tougher than the bottom of the SEC.
I think ASU should be in the Top 10 every year myself but I don't expect that because they have a Top 25 recruiting class at best in most cases but they bring in talented players like 5 star QB who isn't even starting -- Manny Wilkins. It starts with winning than the recruits come in. Like I said I wish we had Stanford's playbook especially with a big & fast back like Kellan Ballage. It's too early to say Arizona State is a good or bad team because San Diego State is usually pretty good. new Mexico State is a different story but with no preseason I expect struggles in the first game.
On edit: I'd actually rather San Diego State's playbook over Arizona State's or Texas A&M. Give the running back the ball 25-40 times a game I love that shit. I formation I love that shit.
