(5,801 posts)The RNC knows the lid is about to be blown off the Russia collusion. I'm just waiting to see what their big plan is to get rid of Mueller.

(14,918 posts)Please, DUers, let's continue to do all we can to right this wrong. Join protests, support the efforts of the ACLU and other groups (in my state the www.tirrc.org and whatever is comparable where you live). This breaks my heart. I don't want to have to say someday..."First they came for the DACA Dreamers...." Even if they never come for me, this is horrible and sinful (please pardon the expression, my dear non-believing DU brothers and sisters). I am torn up inside that this is happening in my country...and it is their country, too. And many Dreamers live in Southeast Texas and Florida, and due to the hurricanes are going to have even more difficulty getting their paperwork in order before the early October deadline.

(32,083 posts)It's not just the Dreamers they're destroying, either. They're tearing the shit out of our scientific community and our education system, too.

(20,998 posts)...and eliminate as many obstacles to enslavement --mental, physical and financial-- as possible. The Republican Party as it exists today is controlled by a cabal of wealthy, theocratic, libertarian-leaning men that believe now is their time to remake the United States as they see fit. Even though many in the Republican Party do not agree with all of their intended actions and mindset, they have accepted their financial largesse, in effect, selling their GOP souls to the devil. We can no longer consider the Republican Party a bona fide participant in this great American experience. They no longer believe in "of the people, for the people and by the people."
VOTE. EVERY. REPUBLICAN. OUT. OF. OFFICE. No exceptions. It is time to banish the Republican Party to the dustbin of history. They have betrayed America.

(14,491 posts)That seems to be the Republican goal on behalf of the big money boys. A divided, fractured, fearful and incoherent society is very easily controlled.
They and their media minions are ripping apart the very fabric of our society by sowing divisions and fear throughout our families, friendship circles, and institutions (including churches and social orgs.). The only positive thing I see right now is that the Republican Party is also ripping itself apart. May the end come soon.

(9,426 posts)happened to me. I received a letter from my Discover card account. Call to verify information. The questions were "Are you a US citizen"? "Are you working or retired?" "Which company did you work for, if you retired?" "In what capacity were you employed?" Does this seem strange to anyone here? I am a Permanent Resident Alien. Retired. I had to spell the name of the company!! My account is in good standing. The REALLY strange thing is the person asking me these questions was INDIAN!! Had a strong accent. I am wondering if I will be issued an arm band to wear.

(14,491 posts)I agree that call seems strange and highly intrusive.
Questions (for anyone):
1. How do we verify this sort of call is legitimate?
2. Shouldn't any company requesting this level of personal info be required to provide justification of their need for it?

(9,426 posts)"To meet government guidelines that prevent money laundering and terrorist financing, financial institutions must maintain current information about their customers" I called the number on the card, so it is legitimate. Strange, though.

(32,639 posts)Maybe if it happens again, tell the person you need to speak with their supervisor and you need to know why the questions are being asked. They'll probably hang up.

(32,639 posts)... why they're asking the questions.
They clearly had no authority, and why would Discover want to cancel good customers anyway?

America needs more people in science, not less. As if the people taking lab courses in junior college are stealing jobs way from billy bob the coal miner.
More and more white color jobs are being sent overseas. I read about a lot of quantitative financial analysis is being done in India for US clients.

I've always known Republican and Nazi were the same thing. Never seen them be so open about it, though.

(1,076 posts)What he and his minions are doing to the DACA folks (children and now adults) is a bunch of BS.
Follow the money and lets get rid of pRezident dRumpf who's working for the russian mob, as opposed to working for the American people.

(53,061 posts)1) If they are DACA Dreamers, then they would have had to apply for it by themselves, parents cannot apply on behalf of their children.
2) If they are non DACA Dreamers then nothing has changed, they still have the same level of risk as they had before and there was no reason to quit.
Not challenging the sentiment expressed in the OP just seems like something is missing from the original tweet.

(51,591 posts)to earn money. They are being realistic and are thinking clearly about their future. I sure as hell hope CA (my state) and the other 15 states who are suing get this overturned by decent judges very, very quickly. I hate this bastard with a passion!!! (and his fucking cabinet and his cult/base).
I picked on the inconsistency right off.
