For locals and travelers to Key Largo who remember Snapper's,

the favorite restaurant and tiki bar on the island, I'm sad to report that it is gone. Can't post pics, but the destruction is devastating. My home is two miles up the road and from what I hear, has survived, but we will sure miss our favorite gathering spot for birthdays and anniversaries and holidays, especially the yearly St. Patrick's parade and festivities. In a video played on weather channel last night, the reporter was nearly in tears; said he hadn't seen anything like this in his 25 years of reporting... he had spent the previous night there having dinner with the staff. Quite sure they will rebuild, but never the same.

My hubby was a regular before he passed this May. He would go after work and discuss his day with other local workmen and fishermen. I glimpsed his stool in the video. He must have been guarding it.
Thanks again!

From what I understand, they haven't let anyone who left the Keys to come back in yet.

This is the main reason I never left when I lived there. People will be frantic wanting to get to their property. I remember that happening after Georges too.

live wires, crews working to restore power. If all the evacuees returned, it would be a bigger mess and the chance of someone getting hurt much increased.
