Uncontacted Tribe Allegedly Killed By Gold Miners In Brazil

At least 10 members of an uncontacted tribe in Brazil’s Amazon Basin were allegedly killed last month by illegal gold miners, according to Survival International.

The organization, which advocates for indigenous rights, said the massacre included women and children and may have wiped out one-fifth of the tribe.

Members of the tribe were gathering eggs along a river in the Javari Valley, in the country’s remote west, when they came across the miners, The New York Times reported. The miners later boasted about the slaughter at a bar in the nearest town, and even showed off a hand-carved paddle they claimed to have stolen as a trophy.

“It was crude bar talk,” Leila Silvia Burger Sotto-Maior, Funai’s coordinator for uncontacted and recently contacted tribes, told the Times. “They even bragged about cutting up the bodies and throwing them in the river.”

Funai is Brazil’s agency for indigenous affairs and its budget was recently cut under President Michel Temer. Survival International described Temer’s government as “fiercely anti-Indian, and has close ties to the country’s powerful and anti-indigenous agribusiness lobby.”

More at the jump, including Brazil's disolving of the agency to protect them.

might be our time to be pared down, just because of a confluence of events, human greed and willful irresponsibility toward space ship earth....neither good or bad, just the way it seems to be going. "Tipping points" keep rattling around in my head...

with that line of thinking.....it probably will happen with a combination of human destruction of environment and irresponsible and sociopathic 'leaders' including, AMERIKKKA who deny the harm being done by climate change and global warming by usage of fossil fuels. I am almost at a point where I say fuck it, these clowns don't care...so just fuck it. AmeriKKKa by the way is a MAJOR contributor to our planets destruction though totally irresponsible stewardship of our resources.

we prove we are the most vicious species on this planet. And when it comes to power and control, along with extreme viciousness inherent in the quest for white supremacy over the planet just turn your eyes to Wash. D.C and oh Charlottsville, and Charleston, and lynchings and oh, oh, Wounded Knee, slavery, segregation and on and on...... betcha they killed the women and children also, 10 dead? Probably all dead by now or run into the jungle...... all in the name of getting rich with....gold

Indigenous people should be held in the highest esteem - they hold the keys to sustainable living; we need to learn from them
