Special Forces In 1960's Were Trained To Position Mini Nuke Back Packs.

Early in the nuclear arms race miniature back pack nukes were already in existence. The US government had a program that was training "frogmen" and other special forces of that era to parachute in. They were trained to place and arm nuclear bombs no larger than a medium sized back pack.. This information was on a special played by Newsmax the showed a documentary of the development of our nuclear arsenal. It was very revealing and frightening to know what we possess.

If if these weapons do not exist right now, the design technology is probably already in the archives ready for resurrection. It is absolutely insane to pursue this technology again. You only need a critical mass the size of a pea or less to create devastating explosions. Most Americans do not realize that many or our nukes probably have critical masses no larger than a baseball. Of course the real dimension and formulas for these nukes are top secret but the reality of their make up is astonishing.

Then there is the neutron bomb that does no blow up anything but only destroys living matter. It releasing massive amounts of radiation the leaves the bomb sites in tact. Building, infrastructure is left unharmed. Yet the people die.

Are we entering an era of real madness with this fool?.

Yes they had them back then, for real. It was based on the W54/W72 warheads. JoeStuckInOH Sep 2017 #2

They are still nuclear warheads. They just replace the outer casing from something that absorbs neutrals (normally depleted/natural uranium) to something that doesn't resulting in an enormous amount of neutron radiation.

They were quite small too, about a 1 foot diameter and 2 feet long and 50LBS... but only 10-1000 ton yield (0.010-1 kiloton). Most modern bombs are in the megaton range and even little boy & fat man were 15-21 kilotons. Primarily the W54/W72 were for tipping air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles and field artillery (large howitzers and man-portable recoilless rifles), so they were quite a bit smaller in size and yield. They just happened to be just barely small enough that they fit in a large backpack and could be toted around. They weren't quite the "suitcase bombs" science fiction heralded them to be.

That was in the early 60's ... so I wouldn't be surprised if they've gotten a bit smaller, more powerful, or both.
