It's fairly normal for a President to be mentioned as a background-character in a comic.
Marvel had
- a comic where Nixon had been replaced by an evil doppelganger from outer space
- a comic where President Obama phoned in to congratulate Tony Stark on something
- a comic about aliens infiltrating Earth and, oh by the way, a bunch of Hollywood-celebrities, the Pope, President Obama and Senator John McCain have also been replaced with doppelgangers.
That's a all fine and dandy, because it doesn't matter who the President is in the Marvel-universe.
Now there's President Donald Trump.
Imagine a storyline where Trump is revealed to be an evil alien from outer space. Wouldn't that be weird?
Imagine a storyline with Trump casually phoning in to Tony Stark (a good-looking genius playboy-billionaire half his age who also happens to be a superhero) to tell him what a great guy he is.
Imagine a storyline that hinges on the superheroes and scientists and secret agents and generals doing their shit and everybody else better staying the fuck out.
Does anybody believe that a comic-President Trump would be okay with the superheroes upstaging him and saving the world without him?
Imagine some random alien-invasion. A situation at knife's edge. And comic-President Trump is threatening the aliens that "his" superheroes will unleash "fire and fury" on them.
