1. What the what?

From the article:

"Right now, if a disabled person faces an ADA violation, such as inaccessibility, at a business, they can file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) or file a lawsuit in court. Because there is no entity responsible for ensuring that businesses comply with the ADA, enforcement depends on people with disabilities to challenge violations.

Put briefly, if the ADA Education and Reform Act is passed, this will be a much more difficult process. Specifically, if HR 620 is passed, a person with a disability would be obligated to provide written notice to a business owner who has violated the ADA. The business owner would then have 60 days to even acknowledge that there is a problem and another 120 days to make progress toward correcting the violation. In other words, people with disabilities will have to wait 180 days to enforce their civil rights."

"We've failed to obey #ADA for 27 years, but just give us 1 more chance before you sue us."

Of course, there's no guarantee these poor oppressed businesses won't be back for another extension soon after this passes.

3. Where Does It Say Dems Support This?

Just read the article and it says that it was on party lines. D's proposed amendments that were shot down. Then several Dems ripped it as a terrible piece of legislation.

Don't see anything that says any Democrats voted or would vote for it.

Including from my district Krysten Sinema.

She didn't used to be a DInO but once she got elected she certainly turned into one.

They called them Lebensunwertes Leben, literally "life unworthy of life". Wonder why the Republicans are in such a hurry to get on that particular bandwagon.

because they believe that NEITHER party likes them. When Dems are joining in with the GOP in neutering the ADA, they might have a point.

Disabled people in my precinct, when I was a poll worker, they voted. And our polling place accommodated them. My experience is VERY different from yours. Where did you experience this, if you don't mind my asking?

You decided that the fact there are Democratic cosponsors of this bill means that Democrats don't "like" the disabled. You ignore the full Democratic NO vote to this bill on the committee. Sorry, I'm not following your reasoning.

Despite this strong condemnation, however, the House Judiciary Committee held a markup hearing on Thursday where it voted HR 620 out of committee. The final vote was 15 to 9 along party lines; all of the amendments proposed by Democrats, including additional damages if a business fails to make progress after 120 days, were rejected. The ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017 will now move to a full House floor vote.

Some people will likely accuse me of being a purist

I see it as having things that are non-negotiable.

I mean if the Dem is going to straight up pander to bigots and Nazis, why vote Dem?

6 of 11 D's who co-sponsor are from California. Guessing that it's somehow a 'best for business' move in their minds.

Fuck off outta here with that garbage
