I Wonder How Many Republicans Smashed By Hurricanes Still Believe In Small Govt.

We know that a good many GOPPERS were absolutely trashed by the Hurricanes. Florida is probably the best example of how non partisan that Hurricane Irma was. Assuredly there were a lot of GOPPERS in Houston who were smashed as well even in the more liberal Houston area.

So I wonder if they still believe that the federal government has NO roll in governing because they cannot be openly hateful and racist because of federal civil rights laws. Maybe even the most bigoted might realize that we are all in this mess together.

Nothing prove more that the roll in the federal governing is crucial to survival itself. These states will never recover without federal help. The states and islands will be wastelands forever without federal dollars.

There will be many more federal disasters the not care if you are a GOP or Democratic supporter. What kind of response will there be in a blue state like California if anything happens in the light of what happened with Sandy.

Big government is an absolute evil, of course, and they want to shrink it down until it's small enough to drown in Grover Norquist's flopsweat, but they might as well use it while it's here, right?

When other people benefit from government services, those people are leeches (unless they're corporations getting billion-dollar handouts; then they're brilliant business models). But when these Republicans themselves suckle at the gubmint teat, it's because they're good, hard-working Americans who've been overlooked by that same gubmit shelling out fat welfare checks to all the DACA immigrants.

It's the classic scenario writ small: capitalism can only function because it knows that socialism is always there to bail it out. These Republican hipposhits are happy to take the same handout that they would deny to other people during times of hardship.

I know one of these people. She's a lifelong Republican who has applied for government low income benefits while trashing others (i.e. Blacks) who apply for the same things. Her reason? She's paid taxes ALL HER LIFE and so she deserves it. "They" have not paid taxes, ever. Of course, she says that with zero evidence, but she definitely believes it.

Oh, and she's a "good Christian." Of course.

Further, during a period of financial hardship a few years ago, my family received SNAP benefits. Several of my friends who had often decried "welfare leeches" were quick to justify my use of that service: "Well, you work hard, you're just working through a rough patch." So it was ok in their view.

Of course, the black single mother with two kids isn't "working through a rough patch." Instead, she's gaming the system, living off the labor of decent, honest Americans.

I was disappointed in the answers because it seems like those that responded were very negative. Instead of looking at the disaster response to these storms as a teaching experience for Repug voters - so we can illustrate why we need a big government - most approached their answer to the question I posed very negatively. With that kind of an attitude by Dems - it's no wonder why we lose elections.

Their belief is that the vast majority of govt "welfare" is givin out to undeserving lazy people of color. So that excludes them.

It's moral to take government handouts only if you don't think they should give it.

Yes she really said that.

How many voters continue to vote for the GOP despite going against their own self interests? The answer is about 99% of them.
