as reported earlier on MSNBC.
The reality is that most people are covered by their employers and they like it. They don't realize how expensive these generous plans are until they leave and have to pay the expensive COBRA. The exclusion of employer provided healthcare from income and payroll taxes cost the treasury $250 billion a year.
Earlier this year, when the first Ryancare failed in the House, it was because eliminating these benefit was part of it and that thorn in the side of the speakers - Meadows - refused, because it amounted to "raising taxes.."
If employers are out of the healthcare business (unless they are in the healthcare business, duh..) this will force millions to provide for their own and then many will demand a universal plan.
Remember, many employer provided benefits are more generous than Medicare.
If and when such a universal plan is enacted, it should be like public school: we all pay for it, but some, who want a private one can still get it and pay for it.
