Voter ID States: The Democratic Party needs an outreach program
in those states, in every county, to help people with documentation for applying for IDs that meet the requirements.
For many people, obtaining birth certificates and other documentation required can be almost impossible. We need local clearing houses with volunteers who will help people get the docs they need to obtain their IDs so they can register and vote.
This could be done, fairly easily, by requiring college students in Political Science, Education, Social Science and related majors to take a one semester credit-earning course that involved working at such a clearing house. The skills learned would be useful to them later and a real help for all of those people who simply do not have the ability or knowledge needed to obtain the documents required by their state for a valid ID for voting purposes.
However this is done, though, it is something the Democratic Party should be involved in. We can help people get IDs, get them registered to vote, and help them document themselves for other reasons as well. The process can be complicated and requires knowledge, computer skills and sometimes a bit of sleuthing. Some people don't know the county they were born in and finding that out from the city can be really difficult without access to the Internet. What is required to obtain documents can be difficult to find and comply with as well. There are even many people whose birth in the United States was never recorded. And then there are immigrants who do not have their naturalization certificates. Getting replacements is complicated.
If we could help, as a political party, it would be to everyone's benefit.
