Two letters to the Editor today in my rural Indiana paper. This is real.

"To the Editor;

It amazes me to the length people, especially women, will go to make every thing President Trump does, or does not do, namely what one woman wrote on the Internet, saying" All these things happening with the weather, Hurricanes, fires & earth quakes are happening because President Trump was elected President." The truth is," in my estimation, that Donald Trump is President, because he is who God wanted in as President of the United States." If you know the Bible, you will see and know that God becomes angry when people decide they do not Need God in their lives, and try to rip Him out of everyones lives too. He is angry with those who are trying to destroy this Country and He is showing that He is God and is in control of everything, that includes hurricanes, fires, earthquakes and tornados and floods. e.g.: The flood in the time of Noah.
Those of us, who now the elderly, remember the classes in History, and Government, also Bible History. We grew up knowing what our Country stands for, what we fought for, that we only entered the War's after we were attacked. We grew up knowing about God and His love for us, and His wanting us to live up to the laws he gave to us to live by. Jude 1: 1-25.
Like Satan, some have become proud, and like Satan did, and declared that He would be like God, Because of that, Lucifer (Satan) was cast out of heaven, he had been the head Angel and when he was cast out of Heaven, he took 1/3 of the angels with him. The battle between good & evil continues today, and will until Jesus returns to earth again.
We who are committed to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior must continue to pray and intercede for President Trump and all those who work with President Trump to make America Great Again, and pray that the eyes of all will be opened to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and what He did for us by His Death on the Cross and His Resurrection from the dead. Continue to hold up the hands of those who are in the front of the battle.

"Editor,

As I walk around in the community and see the people, tears well up in my eyes. I become very emotional. I do so because I see my people, the white people, being brainwashed and led like sheep to the slaughter. What has ever happened to concern for our own? Where has unity among our own people been carted off to? I see the white man caring more for those of other races than they do their own. How can this be? He who does not care for his own household is an infidel and a traitor the Bible tells us. Would that not also apply to your own race? The black man can stick up for his people, the Hispanic can stick up for his people, the Native American can care for his people, the Asian can keep his people non-inclusive, yet when the white man does so, he becomes a racist. Why is that? Why cannot the white man love his own just like the other races love their own? Isn't that what groups like KKK, Neo-Nazis and others are trying to do- LOVE their own? Yet it is the white man who judges thesepro-white groups with anger and resentment. Why? How can that be? Why was it not that way 30 decades ago/a century ago? Well, there is an agenda to destroy the white civilization. It is being done through guilt and shame (which the white man shouldn't have anyway), and it is being done through the dangerous diversity/multi-cultural agenda. And it is being done for one main reason: if you can eradicate white culture, guess what, you can eradicate Christianity! That is the ultimate goal after all: to destroy Christ/Christ-ianity. I do not advocate violence and hate, but I do advocate for white people to put their own first. This starts in the household and spreads into the community. We must stand for our people and our God! So, enough political correctness already! To each, his own. I love that I am Caucasian and I love the Caucasian people, Does that make me racist? Really? I believe those who reject their own kind in favor of another kind to be the true racists! You may deny your own flesh, but that also means denying the flesh of your ancestors, your parents, your wives/husbands, and even your children! SAD, SO SAD! Love your own, because the others sure do love their own (and that's OK). God created you and the races. He created you to be distinct, to be separate. Do you really think that He created the different races so that one day that could all merge into one race? Thank you for your time and heart felt thoughts about this. This is not to disparage any one people but to cause the brain washed white man to think and love his own.

Sincerely,

This is real. This is what progressives are dealing with with a large faction of rural America.
These people cannot be reached. Logic does not work. Self interest does not work.
When you come to an intractable object, go around it.

I knew a lot of them in NC.

They've been failed by schools that didn't think country bumpkins needed to do anything but read signs, sign their names, and do some simple arithmetic and by a major media that was sold to the highest bidders 40 years ago and 30 years ago no longer had to make even a pretense of telling people the truth. The churches are often the only places they feel like they might be worth something, and most of those churches are crooked business enterprises.

That's what makes me so damned angry about what has happened to this country in the past 45 years. Everything but a few rich men has been shortchanged while those rich men have seized control of the one thing that could have told people what was happening to them: a free press.

Until we get that back, these people will be lost. When all you hear 24/7/365 is bullshit propaganda and distorted, hateful religious crap, that's what you start to believe. It's been proven in place after place (Germany, Bosnia, Rwanda) and it is being proven again right here.

My family history is southern evangelical. They too would probably help anyone that knocked on the door hungry (after discussing pulling yourself up from bootstraps.). But they certainly didn't vote for the candidate that would protect and help all Americans.

So in my opinion Trump voters (including my family) might give you the shirt off their back but they sure didn't have any problem with a man who bragged about sexually assaulting women and stirring hate crimes and taking away health insurance from 20 million or so.

A while back in Cincinnati there was the story about a couple of teens who say a car skid on the ice, lose control, and end up almost roof deep in a creek. They didn't stop, one jumped in, waded out to the car and held the driver's head up, while his friend ran to call 911. They stayed with the driver, holding the driver's head out of the water until rescue arrived. Both were treated for hypothermia. When local news tried to interview them, they declined and explained 'that's just what you do'. They didn't stop to ask the driver's religion, they didn't check to see if the driver was white or black, gay or straight, Christian or Muslim. They just did 'what was right'.

Several years ago, my daughter and her husband were involved in a car accident along with their two young children. It happened just a few miles from us and they called us to come to the scene. Nobody was really injured, but their car was totaled. Zack, the older boy (at about 5 or 6) was just fine. but Hannah (at about 3) was somewhat traumatized. It was decided to take Hannah to the hospital, just to be on the safe side. So, off go Mommy, Daddy, and Hannah in the ambulance, while Zack stayed with us to wait for the tow truck. When the truck arrived the driver looked like something out of Deliverance. Couple days growth of beard, snaggle toothed, greasy long hair, about 45-50 years old. He immediately twigged to the fact that Zack was trying to put up a brave front but was really pretty shook. So this old caricature of a Kentucky Hillbilly, started talking to Zack and asking for his 'help' getting their car up on the tow truck. This included working the levers. Know what Zack remembers now about the accident? Yeah, helping the tow truck driver. And that driver never once asked if we were Christians, or if we were Repubs or Dems.

So, yeah, people can be prejudiced against anyone not part of their 'group', but at the same time an individual that belongs to one of 'those groups' is in trouble, many of them rush in to help. It is very strange.

However, if you accept that Catholicism (Orthodox, Coptic, etc) was the original form of Christianity, and the Vulgate the original Bible, I think it is fair to say that at some point the "newer" religions are so adulterated from the original form, they may not be Christian any longer.

For example, Jehovah's say Jesus was really Michael the Archangel and Mormons say the God of Abraham is a flesh and blood man living on another planet. Are these beliefs still Christian?

Can a non-trinitarian church be considered Christian?

I don't know. I guess it depends on how tightly or loosely you define Christianity.

Of course that predates Christ but goes directly down to King David and then down to Jesus. To me, predestination makes a lot of old testament stories irrelevant and almost all of the Gospels.

"We know where the Orthodox Church is, but do not know where it is not."

Christian 'denominational' traditions of faith have such very differences between them.

Our Faith doesn't get 'modernized' with newer
features when a whim beckons.

This may be a 'hard thing to hear', but if you are called to embrace Eastern Orthodoxy, it makes sense.

And on programs on Trinity Broadcasting Network. See Jim Bakker, John Hagee, Perry Stone, among many others.

Jonathan Cahn is very popular among Evangelicals. He tied everything up in his book The Harbinger, which shows America following the pattern from the OT of a nation turning away from God and suffering his wrath, eg 9/11 and the 2007 financial crisis. His latest book The Paradigm asserts that Bill and Hillary are modern incarnations of Ahab and Jezebel, pushing Baal worship (sacrifice of children to Baal, ie abortion) and female power.

The views of his second book are most clearly found in his interview on Sid Roth's show 'It's Supernatural.' The youtube video is linked at rightwingwatch.com.

Cahn is given special credance by adoring Evangelicals because he is a rabbi who converted. As a rabbi he is viewed as an OT expert versed in all its nuances and patterns

The OT and NT do not reconcile all that well. The central question being whether Jesus is a god or the messiah, because he most certainly can't be both and the claim to either is pretty weak. A real OT expert would know these things.

Most biblical scholars believe the only reference to the holy trinity in the NT is a 9th century forgery and most translations either omit it entirely or add a footnote questioning it's authenticity. About a century ago even the official Catholic Church position changed to declare it debatable as to whether or not it's authentic. So yes, it entirely rests on faith because not only is there no evidence for it in the early church, there's plenty in the bible that contradicts any notion of the trinity. The much more plausible explanation is Christ was deified centuries after his death as a matter of political convenience.

Needs a graphic reminder of the results of the Jim Crow KKK's expressions of their "love" for the white race.

I won't post any here, but many well know what I mean...all the lynching photos with those average white citizens attending as if they're at an outdoor concert.

Emmett Till's mutilated body.

So many others.

White privilege is the KKK being normalized to the point they can sponsor road signs on Missouri highways...and have a blind eye turned to the many murders committed by their predecessors.

Go to the truck stop diner in Memphis or the town square in Corydon and you'll hear this all day long. How do you think someone like Pence got elected Gov.? Aside from scattered area's this is one of the reddest of the red states and Pence's declaration that he's a "christian , republican, conservative in that order" is very well received once you get away from the narrow strip of blue along the Ohio river near Louisville and the major urban areas of the state.

Not to mention he was traveling with 12 other men with only one of which was known to be married.

He also had a special relationship with one of his disciples, who almost certainly was very young, during a time when pederasty between religious teachers and students was very common and widely accepted.

So there's lots of inferences you can draw from an assumed historical Jesus that probably wouldn't be all that comforting to most Christians.

I live out in cow country, and yeah there are nuts like this (particularly the Bible quoting first one) but they are pretty rare.

In my church we had an older member (in his 70s), start to occasionally go off on rants like the first letter - especially the heavy sprinkling of semi-related bible quotes. Turns out it was the first signs of dementia, and he unfortunately has worsened to the point of needing to be in a specialized care facility.

The authors of these letters (particularly the first) may be genuinely mentally ill

In 1845, newly-elected U.S. President James K. Polk made a proposition to the Mexican government to purchase the disputed lands between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande.

When that offer was rejected, Polk moved U.S. troops commanded by Major General Zachary Taylor into the disputed territory.

Mexican forces attacked an American outpost in the occupied territory,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican%E2%80%93American_War

When Mexico refused to sell land to the U.S., the U.S. sent in troops to occupy the land, resulting in the Mexican attack.

rocket science. This is the digital age, and these letters were published in a public newspaper as you claim so there is nothing hidden about them or the names of the writers (which editors often withhold anyway). It's not going to be hard for anyone here who wants to take the time to run down these letters in the newspaper in which they were published if your claim is real.

You are doing nothing to "protect" privacy since 1. The letters are already in the public sphere per the wishes of the letter writers 2. You posted the content of the letters on a very active PUBLIC political website 3. You are now refusing to provide a link which does nothing to protect anyone and just wastes time.

Thu Sep 14, 2017, 09:39 AM
Sep 2017

(1) there is no newspaper, there are no letters

(2) OP has serious and valid safety concerns about divulging exactly which small city this is (although if the residents can read, and their thought cops monitor DU, they already know...)

(3) the editors of the paper believe computers are a tool of Satan and the internet was foretold in the Revelation, and since they're also the mayor/chief of police/Reverend/dogcatcher, there's not going to be a website for the Chamber of Commerce that mentions the local paper

I'm sure it could be something else. Regardless, good to see that a lot of DU demands better than Dan Rather's standard for vetting sources and verifying what you read.

"To the Editor,
Last week I heard a news report on CBS where Scott Pelley interviewed the King of Jordan. The King speaks English, so I could understand what he said, not what an interpreter said he said. He told Mr. Pelley that we are in World War III. When asked why he said that, he said, "Isis is in many countries and they are causing trouble where ever they are. It is not just in the Middle East." He also said that Jordan is a Muslin Nation, but they are Muslims that are not a violent faith, that they are not against Christians or Jews. He said they have had to deal with the off shoots who are violent before. When Mr. Pelley asked what he mean, he said, "We had to stop them."
This is the first time I have hear the Jordan King, and was surprised that he spoke fluent English. He said at first they took in refugees, but stopped when they were taking over the jobs of his people. He said They are outside our borders, but we send them food and water, and help them in what ever we can.
In my estimation that is what we should be doing. This is what Mr. Trump has said, "Set up places in their country that are not in battle, and send them food & water & shelters there instead of flooding Nations with them.
As I also say, we need to pray, pray.
I have found this prayer and am praying it;
Father God, open our eyes.
We pray for those who are in the bondage of sin.
Open their eyes too. Do not let them continue to miss out on the far greater joys of this life, and even more importantly, on the eternal joy of heaven.
Save our Nation. Change the hearts of people. Protect our children and our families. Guide us in the up coming Election, and guide the crucial up coming court cases. Open the eyes of Your people, and help us to deliver this Nation back to Thee! For Christ's sake, and in His Name, we pray. Amen.
We have to realize we are in a really bad place in our Nation, and only Prayer and contrition for allowing our Nation to be turned away from God will turn it around and back "One Nation Under God!"
Sincerely,
Katie Holtel "
