McConnell: Democrats shouldn't be able to use procedure to block judges that GOP used against Obama

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is endorsing a move on the federal judiciary that Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has hinted at: ending one of the procedures that Republicans regularly used to block President Obama's judicial nominees so that Democrats can't use it to block Trump's.

Grassley has already said that maybe he won't require the okay of judges' home state senators to proceed with circuit court nominations. He's threatened to ignore the "blue slip" tradition that Republicans used regularly to thwart Obama. Now—for the first time—McConnell is endorsing that idea, advocating that Democrats be shut out of the process.

So many HRC/Bernie bicker threads, when the real problem to be addressed is how do you fight this & follow rule of law, too? Or at some point, do you say fuck rule of law, we are losing it anyway. I don't know, but the dems continue to play by the rules & the GOP does not. That their party is fractured is the only reason they have not caused more destruction than they have. Gorsuch & his stench, will be with us for decades.

It isn't completely over, but as you noted, hard to see how we bounce back.

Which is to say, el zilcho.

Congress can't get jack shit passed, but it sounds like McConnell is about to introduce a bill that makes "turnabout is fair play" illegal.

The reason he gets away with it because the people of this country allows it - his home state is just peachy with him, re-electing him, as with the people in the states who voted in the other Rs.

People get cranky when I say it is OUR fault, not theirs.

If you are a bit of a Political Junky, well,Mitch has maintained the same posture and ideals his whole career. The Guy is all about Power and Party,if it benefits Mitch, then he supports it.

Remember,Trump would not be President today if it had not been Mitch spiking Obama's efforts to stop Russian meddling in our Elective Process. And when this will be the demise of Mitch once and for all.

KY returns him to the Senate time after time. He isn't up for re-election until 2020.

He led an successful, intransigent obstruction campaign to Obama's Centrist governance that brought him back as Majority Leader.

The GOP is unlikely to lose their majority in a 2018 midterm election when young Dems historically don't show up and crabby old people always do.

He's not going anywhere until he decides to retire, or the Grim Reaper pays him a well-deserved visit. He's a cancer on the body politic.

The GOP is Lucy, and the democrats are Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. They pull it away every time we do. They are sadists.
