New CBO Report: Trumps Refusal To Pay Obamacare Subsidies Will Raise 2018 Premiums By 15 Percent

Reprinted with permission from AlterNet.

President Trump is poised to punish 12 million Americans getting health care through Obamacare’s non-group policies by raising their premiums 15 percent in 2018. That’s the conclusion of a report released Thursday by the Congressional Budget Office/Joint Committee on Taxation on the impact of Trump’s refusal to say if the federal government will pay the Affordable Care Act’s subsidies in 2018.

“In 2018, the agencies project, the average benchmark premium will be roughly 15 percent higher than it was in 2017, largely because of short-term market uncertainty—in particular, insurers’ uncertainty about whether federal funding for certain subsidies that are currently available will continue to be provided—and an increase in the percentage of the population living in areas with only one insurer in the marketplace,” the CBO/JCT said.

In 2017, 12 million people bought non-group health plans through the ACA’s exchanges, of which 8 million received subsidies. The CBO/JCT report says the number of individuals seeking Obamacare coverage and receiving subsidies is slated to grow by 1 million in 2018. But a lack of subsidies and higher premiums, if implemented, would reverse that.

Blue Shield is raising mine 12% through Covered CA. Currently I am too ill to continue teaching and was too young to retire with health benefits so right now 30% of my income goes towards my health insur and another 10% for expensive meds for my two pre-existing conditions. Now it will be about 50% of my income. That sure seems reasonable. Good thing one of my illnesses will kill be sooner or later since I can't afford to be sick and live at the same time.

When you are ill it is the last thing you feel like doing or dealing with. I hate the GOP with every cell in my body. I call ALL the senators by getting addresses of homes for sale in the different states so that if the staffers want to verify that I am a constituent they will take my call seriously. I even got unlimited long distance on my cell phone so I could keep calling. If I do not have insurance I won't be able to afford the necessary surgeries to lessen the severe pain I will be in until I eventually die.
(202)224-3121 Call Congress

I found about this last GOP attempt to bankrupt my family and make me suffer on Tues night on a conference call with CA Congresswoman Barbara Lee. Ever since then I have been trying to alert people about it to hopefully try to stop it. I have posted the number on DU several times. I am glad I never called traitor McCain to thank him last July but I am mad I called Collins and thanked her. I wish I could take it back. They are currently being told what my opinion is of them as I proceed down the list. It takes a lot out of me to call since I end up in tears with every single call! That reminds me to put more tissues on my shopping list.
