I just finished UNBELIEVABLE by Katy Tur.

There are several things I learned from this book. Here are just a few: First, Katy Tur seems like a very down to earth and charming woman who is very honest about her weaknesses and vulnerabilities. She also wrote wistfully that she gained so much weight during the campaign that she stopped looking at herself naked.

Second, the relationship between journalists on television is not always one of camaraderie, there is a darker side to it. The competition for air time is fierce and there is a lot of backbiting that no one feels good about.

Third, Donald Trump is a pig. A truly awful pig. He is a lazy ignoramus who told the world well in advance that he was going to be a horrible president. (Tur, of course, said this in a slightly more diplomatic way.) Pity those who didn't listen.

Fourth, Donald Trump is responsible for having made Katy Tur, along with other journalists, legitimately and genuinely fear for their safety and their lives.

Katy Tur's book is well worth your time.

I'm #23 on the hold list. Montgomery County Libraries has one (1) copy among 22 libraries. It sounds like a must read.

As in at least one for each branch?

My local library (Santa Fe, NM) always orders additional copies based on demand. For instance, they already had about 10 copies of "Astrophysics for People in a Hurry" by Neil deGrasse Tyson, and have 10 more on order. Similar story with Hillary Clinton's current books. Five copies already at the library, five more on order. Sue Grafton's latest, 10 in stock, 10 more on order.

One really nice thing about the library here is that they are extremely responsive to requests for them to buy a book they don't already have. More than once I've put in the request, and the next thing I know it's been ordered and I'm on the hold list for it.

We'll see what happens. They should base it upon demand, like you said. I'll wait a couple of weeks before buying (I've already gone over budget on books!)

about her campaign experiences for Marie Claire magazine. Amazing account! I've only been on the road covering a story for brief moments. My most prominent assignment was covering one of the first space shuttle landings at Edwards Air Force Base. A bunch of us were camped up there for several days at this little motel in California City. That was quite an adventure but a microscopic pittance compared to what Katy Tur went through.

And nobody I covered ever threatened or insinuated threats against me or tried to stir up an already rowdy and hostile crowd against me personally! The worst I got was when I very politely asked a grumpy old dude at the next table if he might please not smoke his cigar when our food was about to be served, at a restaurant where our whole extended crew of reporters, producers, and engineers was going to have dinner. He glared at me in the greatest umbrage and loudly replied "I will NOT!"

I returned to our table where about eight of us were seated. One of the guys asked how it went and I said the old cranky dude refused. And one of the other guys who was seated next to me turned toward where the grumpy old dude was seated and thundered "WELL, SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST ASSHOLES!" The whole restaurant heard it. The grumpy old dude and his dinner companions got up and left. So I guess that was one way to snuff out somebody else's stinky cigar.

This was, mind you, before laws were enacted prohibiting smoking in restaurants - which came as as a HUGE relief for someone like me, who loves to eat but has trouble doing so with cigar smoke wafting around near me.

I heard her this past week on "Fresh Air" with Terry Gross, and was completely enthralled. Can hardly wait to read it.

Only that they were together when she was in her twenties and that he is a "kind and gentle person" until someone starts flinging bullshit. Also, that Kellyanne Conway made some ugly remark insinuating that Tur got her job because of Keith.

She doesn't outright call him a pig, she describes piggish behavior. She does call him a lot of other names. And she says he really is orange. She writes he is the color of marmalade and his face looks like marmalade on toast. Lol!

...words sufficiently derogatory to adequately describe Trump without insulting the chosen species. I am down to various parasites like liver flukes and tapeworms, which, like Trump, have no redeeming qualities. While accurate enough, they are not quite as satisfying as a short, explosive sound like "pig." More's the pity.

Putz works pretty well.

At least until "Maggot-Infested Pile of Human Offal: The Donald Trump Story" is published.
