Must get my cable back. I still know of many people, including my 88yr old mom who still don't have power. I called 911 and had her sent to the hospital because she was so out of it and had a bedsore- despite having 2 aides coming in 3 times per day, a nurse from hospice a few times a week. Hospice was trying to blame it on our family saying they were going to call DCF. Just wish I could borrow a generator so she could at least have some fans and a refrig. The hospital would not keep her and hospice says they don't have enough room in their facilities.
At the hospital, they said that there were a lots of people sending elderly family members in because they have no a/c or power but that they would send them home if there wasn't anything that wrong with them despite it being a dangerous environment as far as I'm concerned. Being in 85 degree heat in a house for days in end is just awful.

(3,867 posts)growing up in FL with no AC, how did we do it. It wasn't as hot, it wasn't a concrete jungle

(25,216 posts)We rarely ran the a/c at our old house built in 1963. It had large windows and cross ventilation. At this house, when the a/c goes, there is no air circulation. It is so bad, that I can't stay here a night.
Not only did my mom grow up in Florida without a/c. She grew up without fans.

(8,133 posts)Just us regular "working folks" so they don't give a crap apparently. Most people's power is still off, here apparently. Mine is on so I'm one of the luck ones.
