To vote again for this guy you must say to yourself this,
Yes, Im willing to continue to have Muslim children slaughtered by covert drones and cluster bombs, and Americas minorities imprisoned by the hundreds of thousands for no good reason, and the CIA able to run rampant with no checks or transparency, and privacy eroded further by the unchecked Surveillance State, and American citizens targeted by the President for assassination with no due process, and whistleblowers threatened with life imprisonment for espionage, and the Fed able to dole out trillions to bankers in secret, and a substantially higher risk of war with Iran (fought by the U.S. or by Israel with U.S. support) in exchange for less severe cuts to Social Security, Medicare and other entitlement programs, the preservation of the Education and Energy Departments, more stringent environmental regulations, broader health care coverage, defense of reproductive rights for women, stronger enforcement of civil rights for Americas minorities, a President with no associations with racist views in a newsletter, and a more progressive Supreme Court.

(12,799 posts)Because there is no candidate and no power that will bring an end to those heinous practices. If that were even an option, I would consider voting otherwise. If Obama disappoints, Paul will certainly do the same, with interest.
That entire argument is disingenuous. The CIA has never had checks or transparency. Never. Which candidate is going to change that? Not a damn one of them.
Voting for someone does not mean that one agrees with them 100%
He's still many many times better than the alternatives.

(20,845 posts)Sometimes I think DU needs a Valium app just to get through the typical news day. It seems every news story these days sets off a flurry of streamed teary-eyed posts that Obama isn't a clone of Dennis Kucinich or that "he promised" he'd be the most liberal president in history, "and now my heart is forever broken".
Bullshit. The only place I ever heard he was a wild eyed liberal was on Sean Hannity's radio show, and unlike others here, I strongly suspected he was lying. Compared to anyone else who wants that crappy thankless job next year, Obama is about as far left as they get, and promising to vote against him or stay home next November is akin to saying "I sure wish the country would move a little further to the right so I can do a lot more complaining".
Before anyone dares to ignorantly say there's no difference between Obama and the Republicans at large:
This is a Democratic president signing the Lilly Ledbetter Act that protects women in the workplace:

This is a Republican president signing a bill that restricts certain abortion procedures:

(20,845 posts)I bet he's just like Hitler too.

Is this really putting you through the stress level breaking point? Don't worry, you'll find something else to be outraged over next week, and you'll forget all about this. Again.
Take a Valium and see me in the morning.

(20,845 posts)I always saw that proud GOP moment as a bunch of men telling American women they know what's best for them.

(20,845 posts)Would you feel better if he signed it in DC?
I knew there'd be some overwrought hand wringing here, but nit-picking over the venue seems a bit petty. Do you want me to search Google images and find a pic for you so you can get some sleep tonight?

(72,631 posts)going back to the Magna Carta, The Declaration of Independence, and The U.S. Constitution, you might want to do that proudly and with a public display. I mean, if you are in the right, and have the COURAGE OF YOUR CONVICTIONS.

(20,845 posts)If so, it's about time they started listening to him after all these years, but this vacation has been planned for weeks that we know of.
You may not like the content of the bill, and it's safe to say you may not like the president either, but to say he ran off to hide in his home state during the holidays, just to sign this bill away from WillyT's proud American eyes, is somewhat of a stretch.
To imagine the news outlets have the A Team working overtime on New Years Eve day to cover Obama's vacation is even more of a stretch. Would MSNBC break in during "Lock Up" to show him signing the bill? Maybe Andrea Mitchell wouldn't mind working the holiday and flying to Hawaii to report on a bill that will be discussed in full Monday morning.
Is Wolf Blitzer available this weekend? I haven't seen him, but I bet the entire media is in on the conspiracy to keep the lid on this. They sure aren't doing a very good job though.
Edited to show the picture we weren't supposed to see because Obama ran off to Hawaii to sign the bill away from our prying eyes:

(20,845 posts)I wonder the historical signifigance of that piece of furniture.
The well worn patina, and the fact it's never been restored, likely means it's an important piece of US history.

(94,178 posts). . . no luck on its history, but it's obviously well-worn for a piece of WH furniture. Gotta have some history to it which makes it this President's choice.
