Equifax credit reports not available online (to me, at least).

With nothing else to cap the weekend, I decided to get my free annual credit reports ... one each, from TransUnion, Experian and Equifax.

Logged into www.annualcreditreport.com (do NOT use "freeannualcreditreport.com" or any of the URL variations that include the word "free" -- those are scammer sites) Filled out a completely reasonable form after double-checking for secure web site address and (eventually) successfully negotiating the CAPTCHAS.

Had no problems and was able to review and then download reports from TransUnion and Experian. Equifax, on the other hand, refuses to provide the report online so I can download it. It is forcing me to get my free annual credit report from them by snail mail. So, it ain't free. It's gonna cost me 46-cents.

I tried the online route twice, and had no problem with both sets of Equifax-specific identity verification questions each time, but Equifax crapped all over both my online requests.

So Equifax tells me I'm going to have to fill out a PDF form that's such creaky technology that it can't even be filled out with a PDF reader or PDF form filler-outer software. I'm going to have to print it on paper and use a pen. Black, or blue-black ink only. (Who do they think they are? Miss Manners?) Using block letters and I better not dare let the letters touch the sides of the box.

Then I have to provide photocopies of either: my Social Security card, a pay stub with SSN on it, or a W2. Then, they want a photocopy of either: my driver license; a rental agreement, lease agreement or deed; a pay stub that includes my address; or a utility bill that includes my address.

Equifax says it'll get back to me within 15 days. UNLESS I DARE TO LET THE LETTERS TOUCH THE SIDES OF THE BOX!

Has anybody else tried to get their credit report from Equifax online and gotten this kind of runaround?

and all we hear is that now it's even more OUR responsibility to monitor our credit files. Once a year free reports aren't going to help much if the bad guys use your ID info a month after you looked at your credit file. And if I want to freeze my credit account, it costs $10 in my state, plus possibly more each time I need to un-freeze it so I can you know, buy a house or whatever minding my own business. So Equifax (not to mention the other two agencies) stand to MAKE MILLIONS from this "accidental" breach. LifeLock and others are probably doing record business as well, despite the fact that they do nothing to actually prevent someone taking out credit in your name.

Our "crown jewels" of ID theft will be out there on the black market for the REST OF OUR LIVES. What the hell is being done about this? Oh, and the CFO of Equifax and two other unscrupulous unloaded 1.5M in stocks months ago, months before any of us ever heard of this travesty. And they STILL haven't notified me.

Why is there not public outcry of rage? We have no say-so in whether we deal with these credit agencies or not, and now the very same people who "lost" our most sensitive info are making money off this hand-over-fist.
