someone on Facebook that they don't even know. Which gives complete strangers access to all of the personal information they post to that site. I get three or four such requests per year. I just dismiss them. Hell, I dismiss half the requests from people I DO know.

What you write is correct but it doesn't go far enough. I have no confidence that ONLY the people I "friend" will have access to personal information I post.
My Facebook privacy policy is to assume that anything I post will be available to my worst enemy under the most horrible circumstances.
In other words, I don't post much personal information.
