Pro war machine

I get so discouraged when our Senators vote like this.

U.S. Senate Backs Massive Increase In Military Spending

As voting continued, the vote in the Republican-controlled chamber was 79-8 for the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2018, or NDAA, which authorizes the level of defense spending and sets policies controlling how the money is spent.

So fucking sad.

Patrick Leahy
Kirsten Gillibrand
Jeff Merkley
Ron Wyden

And Sanders, obviously. Even a few Republicans voted against it.

This is why progressives want to make the Democratic Party better.

9. Money goes to contractors and "commands", not the troops.

It's welfare jobs in districts where there's few "living wage" jobs other than the MIC and DoD support. Of course, a good chunk of the money goes to executives and investors for their "hard work" providing toys for Generals, Admirals, and Politicians who fancy themselves to be "Strong Patriotic Leaders", but there will still be E-1s through E-4s who will need to supplement their military pay and allowances with Food Stamps and Utility Assistance to support their family depending on where they are stationed.
And there will still be critical "day to day" training, maintenance, and upgrades that will be cut because all those expensive, delayed toys and bureaucrats need to be paid for.

Defense spending is a big part of the economy and is the source of many high paying jobs.
