Woman flips out on a vets PTSD dog in restaurant

Enraged woman flips out on a veteran for bringing his PTSD dog into a restaurant

Video in link:
http://rare.us/rare-news/caught-on-video/enraged-woman-flips-out-on-a-veteran-for-bringing-his-ptsd-dog-into-a-restaurant/

Shocking footage shows an angry woman screaming at a U.S. military veteran and a restaurant’s staff members after the veteran brought his PTSD service dog into the establishment.

The video begins with the woman already in hysterics, claiming she won’t keep her hands to herself and threatening to push the dog, who was wearing an official service dog jacket and was calmly standing off to the side with its owner.

When an off-camera waitress tries to explain that the veteran is allowed to bring his dog inside because “he fought for our country,” the woman responds erratically by ranting about how her husband was a serviceman who died and asking what the waitress’s point is.

“It’s still nasty to me! I don’t care!” the woman yells. “There should be a separate section for a fucking animal!”

As bystanders ask her to be quiet and explain to her that she can freely eat somewhere else, the woman calls them “whores” and “bitches.” A man eventually comes to everyone’s defense, getting in the woman’s face and telling to her leave. However, before the situation escalates any further, the veteran begs him, “Don’t do it. This is beneath us.”

“Like I said, it’s disgusting to have an animal inside of a public restaurant!” the woman yells as she finally leaves.

The dog was very sweet and well behaved. I can't say the same for the woman who was completely out of control.

I'd love to inspect this nut case's kitchen. My guess is it wouldn't come close to passing a health dept. inspection. And that poor well behaved dog. Sad.

If she let loose the worst of herself in this incident, maybe it'll prompt her to talk it over with someone who can direct her to something that will help. If she's not at least somewhat chastened and ashamed, she is at least somewhat disordered.

It may sound strange, but discussions on foodie forums, people talking about themselves, reveal that a lot of people cannot eat under certain circumstances that they have an exaggerated disgust reactions to, whether it's food prepared by acquaintances and strangers, animals, a bathroom door in sight, whatever. Some can eat in restaurants but are nauseated at the thought of eating foods at parties or brought to work by colleagues. Most with this disability know it's irrational but haven't been able to overcome and just quietly live with the limitations it places on them.

If this person shared this problem, of course, that would only underlie the rest of her inexcusable behaviors.

who barely hold their lives together and apparently this woman was one of them. As easy as it is to become enraged at her, we are supposed to be the ones with knowledge and self control. Service animals, such as the one this Vet was using, has had a lot of training and behavior modification so it knows how to behave in various situations. It is way beyond what an animal would get in obedience training. But someone with serious mental health issues won't understand that and won't necessarily respond to being told that the animal is allowed because of that training.

Probably what needs to happen is the managerial staff of the restaurant needs to be trained in handling the situation if such a situation happens, as it is not that uncommon for people to react negatively to animals in a restaurant. They need to develop a protocol of how to handle it so it doesn't escalate into a screaming, cursing rant. By standers, no doubt mean well, but if they interact with an irrational person with rationality, they are apt to make the situation worse.

As I said, WE are supposed to be the rational, informed people, so let us make a point of de-escalating episodes when we can.

Walking away an even better way. But as quiet dignity is neither trendy nor cool, I get why it's often ignored.

The dog was a service animal. End of issue. Service animals are permitted in restaurants, libraries, stores. . . wherever.

I'm not talking about therapy animals - the New Yorker, I think it was, did funny piece on people claiming to need service/therapy llamas, snakes, etc. I'm talking about legitimate, certified service animals. You may not be able to see the service the dog provides. Some dogs can sense the onset of diabetic coma. If the dog is a service animal, it doesn't matter whether the dog's owner is old, young, male, female, veteran, blind, deaf, sleazebag. It's allowed. People are disgusting.

Service animals are covered under ADA, it's not because "he fought for our country". Though being a service member is why he has a service animal now.
