I Just Made Four Calls To Senate Repug Offices....

Sen. Murkowski - had to leave a voice mail; seems they are ducking taking live calls; said it's a matter of integrity to vote no on this new attempt; she gained a lot of respect voting no the last time; it would be ashamed that she would reverse her decision this time because they dangled dollars in front of her; again it is a matter of integrity - do the right thing.

Sen. McCain - same with this office; had to leave a voice mail; essentially said the same thing; that he gained a lot of new respect from millions of Americans by saying what he did on the floor of the Senate and standing up to the Repug Party and voting no the last time; for McCain it is a matter of both integrity and his legacy and I urged him to do the right thing and vote no on this new attempt by the Repugs; I reminded him that he was disrespected by Trump

Sen. Collins - again had to leave a voice mail; I'm thinking that no Repug office will be taking live calls until this is called to a vote; again I mentioned that this was a matter of integrity and that this current attempt is worse than anything that came before; it would be ashamed if she reversed her thinking on this now and voted yes - I urged her to vote no.

Sen. Paul - this surprised me because i didn't expect to get a live person to talk to in Sen. Paul's office; I urged the person that answered this call to tell Sen. Paul to vote no on this new attempt to Repeal and Replace ACA; I said again that this current attempt is worse than anything that came before; Paul's representative said that Paul will be voting no on this and he went on to say that it probably not for the same reasons I want him to vote no; we both chuckled and I said to him - I'll take a no vote anyway I can get it.

I'm urging everyone here on DU to make similar calls - to these Senators and to the Repug Senators of your home states. We need to stop this current attempt by the Repugs to further decimate all the gains we've made and deny millions and millions of Americans good healthcare coverage.

We're about to lose the ACA, & the replacement is a mean spirited piece of crap that benefits insurance companies.

You have a phone. Make the calls. All those protest marches last winter don't mean a thing if you can't bother to call today.

Republican possible holdouts & a general directory.

Senator Collins: (202) 224-2523

Senator McCain: (202) 224-2235

Senator Murkowski: (202) 224-6665

Senator Paul: (202) 224-4343

Senator Portman: (202) 224-3353

It hadn't been like this during the past two weeks...good efforts since the media and Dems are finally making this know more. I am pissed that they didn't do this week's ago. I found out from a DU post. If we knew then surely the Dems did! Why were they silent?

Also call Lee (R-KS) since I heard last night he is on the fence.

I politely explained my objections to the bill and the manner in which it was being rammed through without a CBO score, without real hearings and despite the overwhelming opposition by Americans in general and numerous health care advocacy and professional organizations. I made the comment that from what I have been reading about the bill, millions will lose their insurance. I stated that I did not understand how anyone could sleep at night if they support a bill that would have such devastating effects on millions of Americans.

Her response? "I sleep very well at night," and then she hung up on me. I called right back and got what sounded like the same staffer. I said that I paid her salary and that I did not appreciate her rude behavior,. She denied that she was the person who hung up on me and then went on to make comments that indicated that she was indeed the same person. She REPEATED the comment that she sleeps very well. I told her that she if she sleeps so well she is obviously lacks a conscience.

I am old enough to remember when there were DECENT Republicans, the late John Heinz (Teresa Heinz Kerry's first husband) for example. This batch today are despicable. I really fear for where we are headed if we as Democrats don't get our acts together and kick these pigs out of office.

whenever i call Burr's or Tillis's offices, if i do get a human they are invariably polite and noncommittal. once i waited for an answer to the question why does senator burr hate poor and sick people, and the person stayed civil and said i can't comment on that.

this was unprofessional and i believe her boss would want to know that she was interacting with constituents so disrespectfully. they at least want to pretend to give a shit.

I did have a very bad interaction with one of John Boehner's staffers years ago when the IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) was up for reauthorization. I always prepare for calls by making notes of the points I wish to make, and the staffer interrupted me and said "YOU PEOPLE should be grateful for what the taxpayers are willing to give you."

These types of comments reflect directly on the people these staffers work for. In some ways I feel better when they show you who they REALLY are, because at that point I can be very pointed in my opinions of THEM. I always try to be polite and respectful unless they are unwilling to treat me with the same respect.

but I've been calling him everyday and also my representative Tim Murphy. who is up for re-election. His office tried to deflect by saying it was at the Senate. I told them I knew this but it would be coming back to the house and I expect him to do the right thing by his constituents and vote against it when it does

He was on the working group that came up with the first Senate health care bill, and his staffer had the audacity to tell me that Toomey didn't know what was in the bill that he was supposedly involved in drafting. I asked how it was possible that he didn't know what was in the bill that he was tasked with helping to write. The guy actually was at a total loss for words.

I was surprised to get a human being and then even more surprised to get one so openly rude.

Tim Murphy is probably too busy digging his way out of the scandal of his extramarital affair to care about his constituents' welfare. Besides he has always been just another reliable rubber stamp for whatever garbage the Republican party is pushing.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2017/09/19/politics/graham-cassidy-whip-list-health-care-bill/index.html

1) Shelley Moore Capito...She voted against one of the incarnations during the last flurry of bills, and she knows how damaging this travesty would be to her WV constituents.

From link: "Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (West Virginia) -- "There is still a lot of work to be done"

2) Lamar Alexander...He's been working across the aisle with our Patty Murray for a bipartisan bill to stabilize the markets. I think a flood of calls praising him for this and urging him to hold out for that instead of voting to kill sick and desperate Americans might have a chance. He's winding down his career and might have some thoughts for his legacy.

From link: "Sen. Lamar Alexander (Tennessee) - Said he would like to support it, and might, but unhappy that the Graham-Cassidy bill and Sen. Bernie Sanders' Medicare-for-all distracted from his effort with Sen. Patty Murray on market stabilization."

(The link lists all the Yes, No, and Maybe votes)
