(17,235 posts)There is absolutely no reason for the gas prices to be where they currently are. I have a reservation near me and their prices continue to fall. Some of the "white men" are the greatest threat to the rest of US.

(1,896 posts)I may not get much sympathy, but that's actually high for the Houston area compared to two months ago.

(11,686 posts)From all of my years of driving I have noticed a pattern. They lower the prices that make us feel happy that they are down then they raise them and never go down again. After awhile they lower it again ( not to the price before ) and then up again to the price it stays at. This time they will make the increase a lot and probably make a very small decrease if at all before taking it up again.

(11,686 posts)I can not remember when that was but I remember cussing about it and planning my outings very carefully and not going very many places and asking for gas money when I took people places.. It went down quite a bit (obviously ) but it started a constant rise and never quit except for those occasional drops to prep us for the rise. I will not be surprised if it goes back up to around that.

(5,325 posts)Seeing it as low as $2.35 at some stations. Not all the way, but better than it was.

(65,248 posts)And oil companies didn't cause the spike!
Speculators, hoping the storm damage would greatly shrink supply while demand stayed flat drove up the price disproportionately to the facts.
One: one of the economic mistakes of the 80's was the law change that allowed refined goods to go to the commodities markets. It ruined the cost plus model, eliminated any need to compete on price, and created a useless layer of profit taking that added no value to either the supply or demand side
Two: at least we can take a little solace in the fact that many speculators got slaughtered when supply caught back up as fast as it did
Right now, gas here is only 10¢ above what it was pre-Harvey. That caused huge hits to people who bet on other people's misery using other people's money!

But US oil supplies are unexpectedly high right now, so prices will be coming down eventually.

(23,374 posts)... now they've slowly settled back down to pre-hurricane rates. Maybe a little lower. $2.20.
