Are Trumps Poll Numbers Ticking Up?

By JOSH MARSHALL
Published SEPTEMBER 20, 2017 11:55 AM

... If we go by Gallup .. he does seem to have ticked up a bit ...

What does this mean? Probably not that much ... The first thing to remember is that these are .. very small differences. At the extremes it’s four percentage points between a low of 34% approval and a high of 38% approval. That’s basically just bouncing around within the margin of error ...

... it’s .. likely .. a small improvement in public approval tied to seeing .. ‘caregiving President during natural disaster’ ... We remember all the moments of his praising the big turnouts at shelters or saying how everything was going great. But it’s Trump. The bar is very low ...

Yes, the bar has been lowered. Though, IIRC, Bush got away with this too - any hints of semi-normalcy on his part were rewarded with big poll bumps. "See! He's not so bad!"

But people are sick of hearing me say that, so I will stop for a while.

at the UN. (Typecast) So he will remind us again what an embarrassment he is. Buffoonery is his game. Just give it a few hours to get out to the public how terrible his performance was and those numbers will start to dip again. He can't get out of his own way so if by some chance he has a good week, he will screw it up. Count on it.

That's why I posted we need to be wary about working with him lest we help normalize him and in the process make him more popular, even if it's only a little bit more popular.

Most of the news over the past couple weeks has been centered around Irma/Maria and now the ACA repeal attempt. His name has been out of the headlines for the most part, which is good for his poll numbers.
