I think this is his end though. Johnson or Wisniewski have the name recognition to replace him now - after this past June's Gubernatorial Primary.

if he is convicted, Christie appoints an R to the senate and we lose every vote there.

Hopefully between the election and the holidays, if Menendez is convicted, we stall time long enough for Phil Murphy (D) to appoint a replacement.

Johnson, Wisniewski, Lesniak (all the other candidates in the primary), Barbara Buono (2013 gov nominee), or Frank Pallone would be good replacements.

I'm not totally opposed to it if it did come down to it him making an appointment.

And whoever is appointed that wants to keep the seat will have to consider what the mostly dem state wants.

And if he does - I'd bet Murphy sets a special election date on day 1.

After the Lautenberg fiasco - the Republicans in this state have it coming. If you look at the 'history' - going back to 1924 - Christie did NOT have to set a special election date. Lautenberg's death was well within the time period to go to general election. So lets say Bob is convicted . . .

Christie makes an appointment.

Murphy isn't going to let it ride until January 2019.

But I understand your point.

If they go after Menedez they have to go after Price as well.

However this give me an opportunity to bring up my favorite statement about lobbyist

"If you can't eat their food, drink their booze, screw their women, take their money and then vote against them you've got no business being up here."

It's only an issue when one of ours - a Democratic Party member does it. Republicans are thugs who always get away with it.
