Push to unseal the draft Whitewater indictment against Hillary Clinton gets court date

A federal appeals court will hear a case brought by Judicial Watch on Friday to make public draft indictments of Hillary Clinton from the Whitewater scandal in the 1990s.

Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group that files Freedom of Information Act requests, wants copies of the documents that the National Archives and Records Administration has declined to release. It filed a FOIA request for the documents in March 2015 and in October 2015 the group sued for the 238 pages of responsive records.

According to Judicial Watch: “The National Archives argues that the documents should be kept secret, citing grand jury secrecy and Clinton’s personal privacy.” But Judicial Watch says that because so much about the Whitewater case has already been made public, “there is no secrecy or privacy left to protect.”

The documents in question are alleged drafts of indictments written by Hickman Ewing, the chief deputy of Kenneth Starr, the independent counsel appointed to investigate Bill and Hillary Clinton’s alleged involvement in fraudulent real estate dealings. Although others were sentenced for their role in the matter, neither Clinton was ever prosecuted.

Ewing told investigators he drafted the indictments in April 1995. According to Judicial Watch, the documents pertain to allegations that Hillary Clinton provided false information and withheld information from those investigating Whitewater.

This is nothing more than an attempt to divert attention from Mueller's investigation of Trump and his associates. Whitewater! Of all things! Yes, let's all relive that because there is nothing more important to be attending to now, in the aftermath of Harvey, Irma, and now Maria, not to mention the Republicans' war on every single thing that helps the environment and the American people.

Granted, they tend to be standing in corners talking to themselves, but they ARE talking about it.

what would these documents contain, exactly? Allegations about collusion in nothing? Assertions of deviousness in avoiding prosecution for zilch?

The one thing the right wing never manages to grasp is that the Clintons didn't do anything illegal, or even wrong, about the Whitewater real estate development. They invested money. They lost it. And although the Clintons lived through the 1960s, they appear to be able to remember much of it.

Or, in short, WHITEWATER? Having failed to prove guilt in every other official investigation of the Clintons, their enemies are attempting to recycle an investigation that slaved away for five years and triumphantly produced: Monica Lewinsky. The Republicans can no longer remember the 1990s, never mind the '60s. It's probably not clinical dementia, but something like advanced irrational belief in their own propaganda.

If I thought for a second it would turn around and bite them in the butt, I'd say go for it. The incredibly picayune fly-specking of the Clintons would make a terrific contrast to the real ethical transgressions of the current administration, but Judicial Watch is as far beyond embarrassment as the Andromeda Galaxy is beyond Mars.

Dredging up something from 22 years ago in their obsessive need to find something -- anything! -- to throw at Clinton just shows how much they fear her. Maybe it they look hard enough they can find someone who saw her exit through the door marked enter, that'll make a hugh difference and the morans will love it.

To bring this back to life again after all of these years is complete crap. Just another attempt to take down the Clintons. What threat do either of them hold at this moment in time? Neither holds an office, and Bill cannot be President again and Hillary has said she's done.

Utter and extreme bullshit. Time for the denigrating of Bill and Hillary to stop. If any of this assholes had anything of value that could have been used to take down the Clintons, it would have already been used.

It's time for the vindictive Republicans to move on, or shall we talk more about Ken Starr???

first off, it's Judicial Watch which has always been a right wing organization. Secondly, it's from a 2015 FOIA request and lawsuit. It's just now getting a court date.

I'm sure at that time, they were looking for dirt on Hillary (or President Clinton) that they could use against her in the campaign.
