Gay Republican who attacked Obamacare nonstop turns to crowdfunding for medical bills

By Jeff Taylor · Thursday, September 21, 2017

The Sassy Gay Republican was in a serious car accident, and is now soliciting funds. Twitter

A gay Republican with a sizable social media following, who has criticized Obamacare for “forcing” him to purchase insurance he was sure he’d never need, is turning to crowdfunding after a car accident has left him with medical bills he can’t pay.

The “Sassy Gay Republican,” as he calls himself, posted to GoFundMe, asking for $15,000, since the hospital he was taken to didn’t accept his insurance.

From his plea for funds:

For those of you who follow my story on Twitter, you know how open I am about my life, & whenever I need help, I always ask. There’s always some guilt for me asking, but right now, I really don’t have a choice. I just got a place to stay & I really need to keep up with the bills so I can better my life as I’m trying so very hard to do. The paramedics & police officer said I was very lucky. People in these types of accidents don’t typically survive, especially at a whopping highway speed of 65MPH. I’m still in shock as I write this, but I know I can get past it. God was with me in that car, I really believe it you guys. It wasn’t my time & I survived, just like I have been this entire time.

He explains that he earns his living as a pizza delivery driver, obviously now on hold.

Someone could donate $5 and then submit a GoFundMe Fraud Alert and get that guy banned from there. TheBlackAdder Sep 2017 #20

Sounds fishy. If he purchased ACA insurance, it's not with some fly-by-night company. Vinca Sep 2017 #12
Why would he say "I was blessed to say I was sober & no drugs or alcohol" when he controls that? TheBlackAdder Sep 2017 #13
Could he have a substance abuse problem, perhaps? jmowreader Sep 2017 #17
No, if "God was with me in that car" you wouldn't have had a fucking accident. TheBlackAdder Sep 2017 #14
So we can pretty much bet drugs or alcohol were somehow involved Johonny Sep 2017 #15

"Since my last GoFund me I've enrolled in therapy as well as substance abuse classes, and let me tell you, it's working."

Possibly helping make him a better grifter?

Crowd funding has its place, but with all of the hurricanes, etc., I have been inundated with them, and I'm not paying attention to them any more in self-defense.

There is such an opportunity for deception with these things, as appears to be the case with this one IF the story is true that this isn't even his car in the picture. He's "blessed" to say he was sober? Isn't being sober pretty much expected when you are driving a vehicle?

But not from donations. Donations uphold the fallacy that some people "deserve" care more than others, and reinforce the system that rewards those who have the means to organize fundraisers. I want him to have universal single-payer health care that meets him where he is and provides the care he needs. Too bad he's worked against my efforts so hard. Sorry dude!

There's no reason for a hospital to refuse coverage with a reputable insurance company.

There are schooling the shit out of this snowflake! Some examples:

$5.00 Libtard here, willing to share some of my hard-earned income to help a fellow human being. Good luck with your recovery. Stop being such an asshole on twitter.

$5.00 Here is a little help from a liberal ACA favoring immigrant. I hope you get better.

$10.00 Imagine a world where every single person who had catastrophic medical bills had to set up a GoFundMe page. Or don't imagine it. Just keep voting Republican and soon we'll have it.

$20.00 Another centrist/left leaning idiot progressive here. Just reminding you that we're all in this together. Supporting Graham-Cassidy is a death sentence we can't afford.

$5.00 I'm a Democrat. I don't agree with anything you have to say. But I sincerely, hope this helps you get back on track. Much love!

$5.00 I hope you have learned your lesson and understand the concepts of insurance and a universal and affordable healthcare system better now. Another liberal coming to your support.
