First Read: Backers of the GOP Graham-Cassidy health-care bill Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) plus President Trump via Twitter maintain it doesnt touch protections for those with pre-existing conditions. And Cassidy also says the legislation will cover more people than current law does.

They all have one problem: No one from the health industry is backing them up. The health insurers are against Graham-Cassidy, with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association saying that the legislation contains provisions that would allow states to waive key consumer protections, as well as undermine safeguards for those with pre-existing medical condition. The American Medical Association is also against the bill. Ditto the American Hospital Association.
So if Graham/Cassidy/Trump claim that the legislation protects those with pre-existing conditions and expands coverage, the question follows: Which study or industry expert backs that up?

(2,848 posts)The health insurers are definitely not our friends. They want to make money first and if they help people... well that's just happens my accident. So not having the support of insurers doesn't bother me one bit. Of course this plan is horrible for the people too.

(16,245 posts)The reason we are in this mess in the first place is because of them. They refused to insure people with preexisting conditions, they threw people out once they reached a maximum, they nickel and dime everyone to death. So the ACA comes along and MAKES them do these things, while providing subsidies to people to ensure that insurance companies get their cut.
They could have done all those things before but we all know why they wouldn't.
Now they just want to keep the gravy train going.
You and I both know what happens if this bill passes: they drop all the expensive people, offer up cheapo plans that cover nothing and we are back where we started. They are not going to do anything unless they are FORCED to by law, despite their fake concern now.

(12,611 posts)They certainly know how to do that. Or are they just covering their a$$es by whining to the press.
