Manafort planning to leave US as Muellers team prepares to indict him in Russia probe

https://www.rawstory.com/2017/09/manafort-planning-to-leave-us-as-muellers-team-prepares-to-indict-him-in-russia-probe/amp/

Paul Manafort is planning to leave the country soon, after he was reportedly notified that he will be indicted by federal prosecutors working for special counsel Robert Mueller.

The former campaign chairman for President Donald Trump has been targeted by investigators probing alleged Russian interference in the U.S. election, and a New York Times report revealed he had continued lobbying on behalf of foreign interests.

Right around the time Manafort’s home was raided before dawn by federal agents, the newspaper reported, he started working for groups allied with Iraq’s Kurdish minority to promote a referendum for independence that’s officially opposed by the U.S.

Federal prosecutors warned Manafort afterward that they planned to indict him — and the former campaign chairman began making plans to travel overseas.

And he knows it. Seriously, making plans to leave the country immediately after finding out about the indictment? He couldn't look more guilty if he tried.

Him being overseas would make it easier for him to have an accident like all those dead Russians Putin has left in his wake.

Someone just told me I was peddling conspiracy theories because I started it with "what would happen if Manafort fell on a bullet?" But the central issue I was getting at was the very real possibility of Manafort being taken out of the picture by whatever means and leaving Mueller without live testimony.

I was trying to be dramatic. I went back and added the edit, but it didn't matter. I even explained to the poster who poo pooed me that the circumstances of his possible disappearance were not what concerned me. Oh well. Next time around, I'll word more carefully.

But I really wanted to know what Mueller would do if he could no longer interview Manafort. Still nobody could answer what it meant for the investigation or eventual prosecution.

Passports are just like tax forms. Only the honest sheep use them.

You can easily leave the US on lots of documents. A bit harder to get back in, but not really if you have friends.

If an individual is a target of some organization with enough resources, that individual can be controlled - no matter the location.

Final disposition can be a slap on the wrist or several varieties of terminal conditions.

If you get into the business of playing with monsters, expect your due rewards.

Pretty tough choice: stay in the US and wait for the inevitable indictment or go abroad where Putin can get to him more easily.

Don't dring any tea while abroad, Paulie Walnuts!

When I clicked the link I noticed the word "may" in the headline:

Manafort may plan to leave US — as Mueller’s team prepares to indict him in Russia probe

The writer is hypothesizing that Manafort will go to Iraq for an upcoming referendum vote on Kurdish independence. The headline, like so many Raw Story headlines, is alarmist, citation-weak and click-baity.

Here is the NYT article from which the writer gleaned his theory:
